kim taehyung
taehyung sighed as he entered school. since he had to be there by 7:30, he decided to walk. he hated every moment of it. he hated the fact he was still half asleep, and that he can't feel his legs anymore.
it's been a few weeks since his last encounter with jimin, in the dark hallway, but the small boy still managed to linger his mind. taehyung doesn't know why, but that boy's smile and laugh is the most contagious thing in this universe. he wants to learn more about this new kid, but he doesn't know how.
••
it was finally fourth period. taehyung didn't pay attention to anyone or anything this whole day, but fourth period was his favorite period.
"good afternoon, class," ms im announced, receiving a very monotone reply back. "everyone pull out your homework. we'll be correcting it."
the class groaned before flipping through their binders.
as the teacher went through the questions, taehyung only pretended to listen. he just wanted to go home and finish reading his comics. but today's yet another day where he has to stay late after school since him and namjoon have to work on an assignment.
"jimin, please read out your answer for question 17," the teacher called to the back of the classroom, causing all heads to turn.
"i-uh.. u-uhm. w-well t-the message o-of this s-story is t-t-that... i-is -t-that e-even i-if-." jimin was interrupted by the teacher.
"quiet! that's enough from you. i'll choose someone who can actually speak," after the teacher had said that, almost the whole class bursted into laugher. taehyung didn't though. although he was barely listening, he knows why the kids were laughing. it breaks his heart. he can hear jimin starting to cry.
"taehyung," the teacher called. "you answer question 17."
taehyung stayed silent. he didn't know what to do. he'd feel horrible if he'd replace jimin's answer, but he spoke anyways. before he spoke, he went over to jimin's desk and took his notebook.
jimin sniffled a bit. "here, i'll read your answer for you," taehyung smiled shyly, ruffling the embarrassed boy's hair.
"one of the messages of the quiet is that the people you love are the people who'll leave first. in this story, nate had lost his beloved brother when they were only young..." as the answer went on, students started to tune in. taehyung himself couldn't believe the beautiful, well thought out answer he was reading.
"thank you, taehyung, for reading jimin's answer," the teacher bowed. "and jimin," she pointed to jimin. "maybe you should learn from tae," she chuckled.
jimin started to cry again. taehyung knew this wasn't right. so he raised his hand. but before the teacher could call on him, jimin vomited on taehyung and himself.
everyone gasped.
"oh my goodness, jimin, are you okay?!" taehyung asked worryingly, not knowing what to do.
"i-i—."
"jimin, taehyung, go get cleaned up! stay in the sick room," ms im sighed, shooing them off.
••
right now, taehyung did not want to be with jimin. the whole situation was awkward, and no one knew what to say. they were currently scrubbing off jimin's vomit from their uniforms.
"i— i'm really sorry," jimin blurted out- he continued to wipe his vomit off.
"about what?" taehyung, almost sounding dumb to jimin, replied.
"yknow... the speaking and the vomit and my whole existence to be honest," jimin scratched the back of his neck as he quietly spoke to taehyung. taehyung chuckled in reply.
"don't be sorry, kiddo. what ms im did back there was pretty shitty. she's not usually like that though," taehyung sadly sighed at the memory.
"b-but i p-put you in a-all this trouble," jimin was almost on the verge of tears... again.
"again, it's fine. i'm okay... it's you who's not fine," taehyung emphasized, splashing some cool water on his face.
jimin just stayed silent, deciding to not argue.
"now let's get you to the sick room," taehyung said to avoid awkward silence, pulling jimin all the way there.
"t-thank you," jimin stammered. "i don't know if i can ever enter that classroom again."
taehyung sighed. he felt bad. "whoever laughs at you or makes fun of you is a dick. don't listen to them, they aren't worth your time."
"okay-."
"park jimin? who's park jimin," a nurse interrupted, clipboard in hand.
"he is, sir," taehyung lightly pushed jimin closer.
"jimin, i'm afraid that you will be left unattended in the sick room. but if any emergency happens, squeeze this," the nurse said, handing jimin a grey object.
"a-alone? can t-taehyung stay with me?" jimin was scared to be in the sickroom alone, he didn't like it.
"is that alright with taehyung?" the nurse asked.
"yes, yes it is," taehyung answered, smiling to jimin.
"okay. the two of you will be excused. you're both from ms im's class, correct?"
"yep," they replied in unison. they were both led to the sick room. jimin was given a bucket incase he puked, and he laid on the bed. taehyung sat on the floor next to him.
"take care of jimin, taehyung. you guys can leave when school ends," and with that, the nurse left.
"tae," jimin lowly called from the bed. "join me. the floor must be uncomfortable."
"is there room up there? i don't want to squish you," taehyung chuckled.
"you can fit ten cats up here!" jimin chuckled back.
"okay then. make room for the tiger!" they both giggled.
"i'm sorry for making you stay," jimin became slightly serious, moving around to get comfortable.
"no, don't be sorry. i needed a little rest anyways," taehyung sighed as he rested his head. he usually gets headaches around this time of day.
"okay good," jimin smiled at the ceiling.
silence filled the room, but they both felt comfortable.
••
"he did what?!" namjoon gasped in disbelief. the two of them were working on a project.
"he vomited all over me. and then we stayed in the sick room together until school ended. i still feel bad for the kid. he was horribly embarrassed," taehyung frowned, his fingers still typing.
"yeah, that did sound really cruel. it doesn't sound like ms im at all. maybe she woke up on the wrong side of the bed," namjoon frowned as well, but secretly shipped the two. "maybe you two are soulmates, and this was all meant to happen. yknow, it's pretty obvious that yoongi and hobi are soulmates. and jungkook is definitely supposed to be with me for a lifetime. so maybe you and jimin are."
"i don't know. he's a little weird... and definitely not my type," taehyung wasn't really fond of the kid. he felt bad for him, and just wanted to know a little more.
"you don't even know the kid. just give him
a chance." namjoon was right, and taehyung knew it."whatever you say, boss," taehyung saluted, before going back to work.
