Chapter 5
I'm on cloud fucking nine! Emma is giving me a chance to prove myself to her. I'll make sure she knows I'm serious about this. I won't even look at another girl now. No phone numbers, definitely no hook ups, nothing that could screw this up. I want her to believe me when I say she's it for me.
I did something right, she's agreed to come to my next game. When she went in with the girls to get dressed, she was a little dazed, a little confused but that's okay. I always could knock her off balance. I waited until I heard the bedroom door close before I literally fist pumped the air several times. It'll be a while before I can settle down from this news. I've waited too long for my chance.
Checking my phone I see messages from a couple girls that want to see me when I get back, a few from my brothers and the team, a couple from my mom asking about the interview, a single angry message from my dad and several messages from Matt asking me where I am and what's going on.
Shit! That's the one that has to come first
I didn't tell him, or anyone, where I was going. Everyone else can wait, Matt and Ma are the only calls I'm making. Matt will take care of the others. He will be first, I know he can do the travel arrangements for the next game. Then I can talk to Ma, not that she doesn't already know where I went. The woman always knows everything we do.
I delete the messages from the girls. I'm not gonna bother calling them. I've got the one I want and I'm not gonna blow it by even talking to a girl and giving Emma the wrong idea again. I've got a lot of time to make up for, I don't want to waste it fighting with her.
Tess walks back out and sits down on the couch watching me as I start with my calls. Curling herself up in the corner of the sofa, she turns on the tv but keeps it muted on ESPN and watches the highlights. It's good to know the girls are as interested in sports as I am. It's nice to have that in common. She looks pleased, so I'm guessing Em told her about the game tickets.
Tess gives me a wink as I meet her eyes and I turn away not wanting to give her the wrong idea. My heart is taken, it's never belonged to anyone but Em. Tess doesn't seem to mind the way I'm not flirting back and leaves me to make my calls.
I'm too nervous and excited about getting my shot. I can't seem to stand still, I can't even sit down right now, I'm so excited that I've got a chance with Emma. I pace back and forth behind the couch as I wait for Matt to pick up.
"Hey! Where'd you go without telling me? Derrick said he dropped you at the airport. Not cool, man!" Matt started in as soon as the call connected.
We grew up together, played ball back in the day and he knows me and my world well. I trust Matt with my life and my career. We went to college together and he has stayed with me from the beginning. The guy has the best business mind I know and he knows me inside out. I know he has my best interest at heart.
"Sorry, dude. Chelsea showed up at Emma's. She's in bad shape, Matt. I had to get here, I needed to see her." I explained to him. Matt has feelings for Chelsea just as much as the rest of us. She's part of our family, plain and simple.
I heard a soft curse and something that sounded like a brick dropping. There was a crash then a long pause, I know he's processing what I said. "I can get there tomorrow at the earliest. What does she need?"
