Chapter 45
Part 1Matt
It's been a week of peace for all of us. Emma's graduation is tonight and we're having a big family celebration at Georgia's house afterwards. Blake was good on his word about security. You'd think the football players doubled as security guards with the guys he had in place. I'm not sure where he found them but they are seriously badass. I'm glad I'm on Blake's good side, I don't want to be Courtney or Zach about now. Blake is out to make sure they both disappear permanently.
"Thanks for the security, but wow Dude, you mean business with this." I say walking into the empty diner Blake has rented out for a couple hours just for the men of the family to meet.
This is new for us. We don't leave out the girls on any family decisions or family meetings. For Blake to call us here without the girls can only mean he's up to no good. Blake shakes my hand and nods for me to take a seat. I'm curious now what his plan is if he plans on keeping this from Emma. They're about to be married and he's going to do this. I just can't help but think this isn't a good way to start a marriage and I have to wonder what it might do to Chelsea and I if I keep it from her.
It takes about twenty minutes for all of us to get here. All but one that has been noticeably missing for the past couple weeks. He hasn't been home and he hasn't checked in. This isn't like Jake at all. He's the one that keeps an eye on all of us keeping us in line. He hasn't been in touch with anyone for weeks. Now I'm worried.
"When was the last time you talked to Jake? I'm getting worried. He hasn't been around, he hasn't called. This isn't like him." I ask the others.
Cade and Adam immediately get on their phones and start hunting him down. Lance is quickly calling someone else who might have an idea and none of us have talked to since the girls were released from the hospital.
"Hey Grace, it's Lance Drake..... I'm good. Look I'm sorry to bother you at the hospital, I know you're busy but have you heard from Jake?"
Blake, Tyler and I stood quietly waiting while there was a very long pause. "I see. We didn't know that. Thank you for letting me know. If you hear from him will you please call me?... thanks Grace. I appreciate it." Lance disconnected the call and shook his head. "Grace broke things off with him. He didn't take it too well I guess."
"This isn't good, we need to find him." Blake says the lines between his eyes growing deeper. His frown is tighter as he clenches his jaw. Blake's got a lot more to deal with and none of it seems to be good, not to mention he's getting married in two weeks. This is the last thing he needs. "Every time I've fallen off the deep end, Jake was there for me. He's family we're there for him. Call everyone and get them looking. We need to find him."
Blake
I'm not going to let Jake down anymore than I'm going to let the girls down. We've got a lot to deal with so it's time everyone steps up and helps. That's what this family does. I made a promise to Emma before I dropped her off at mom's place that I wouldn't do anything stupid or that could hurt us. I'm going to keep that promise but I'm not letting anyone touch my family again.
"I'm sorry I had to make this meeting so secretive. I don't want to worry any of the girls. Does anyone know where Dad and Alan are? They should be here too?" I started the meeting. It's just the men of the family. I told Emma we were planning my bachelor party but really we've got more important things to deal with.
