I've kept my phone off. When the calls started coming in from Lance then from Matt and Jake, I just couldn't take it. I didn't want to know that they were worried about me or that they couldn't find me. It's better this way. I know I'm breaking Lance's heart again, I'm breaking my own too. He wants me to come back with him and get our baby, to be a family. How can I not want that too? I do with everything I am, but I know my father. His threats aren't just words. He means everything he says I've seen too much to know that he wouldn't think twice about hurting or killing Lance. My leaving, disappearing this way will save his life.

I get on the bus and walk to the very back and sit down in a dark corner. I don't want to be seen, I don't want to talk. I'm running, hiding once again. I look out the window and take my last look at California. I won't be coming back here again. As the bus finishes loading and everyone finishes settling in the door closes and the driver starts moving us. Any chance of turning around is gone. I'm heading off to a new state and new identity once again. This will be my third time I've had to make this change. I'm getting better at walking away and not looking back. Or I was, but it's Lance again and it's like the first time all over again. Walking away from him will never be easy.

The lights pass as we get on the freeway and I put in my earbuds and listen to the radio. Anything to occupy my thoughts and time so I'm not thinking about Lance. That's when I hear the news alert and I just want to throw up. What do I do? My best friends need me? I can't go back, can I?

"News just in, reports just came in that Emma Drake, fiancé of former quarterback of the Denver Broncos, has been shot during a home invasion. She was with a friend who was also injured in the attack, but is resting comfortably at County Memorial. No name is being released at this time. No news yet on Ms. Drake's condition. We will keep you updated as updates come in. Back to you in the newsroom."

Maybe just a call to the hospital. I call the hospital and hope I can get some news. "Hi I'm Emma Drakes roommate is she gonna be okay?"

"I'm sorry, we can only give out information to family. Her brother is here would you like to talk to him?" The nurse asks.

"No, that's okay thanks." I quickly hang up. I can't talk to Lance, he'll convince me to come back. I lean my head against the cool glass of the window. Emma, I really hope you're okay.

Lance

This is truly uncomfortable and I'm not in the mood to sit here and watch my best friend get all cozy with the girl I loved for years, while I'm waiting to hear how my sister is. I can't do it. I'm happy for them, I really am. I'm not one to harbor bad feelings, I just am really feeling lost and irritable with Tess not returning calls and Emma in surgery and no news on her condition, it's a lot at one time. The police have been by and want information too, but with Emma in surgery and Chelsea not remembering, neither of the girls are able to give them anything. Matt and I told them what we knew, we kept it away from Chelsea. Neither Matt or I want to upset her. I just hope when she does remember, she doesn't blame herself for Emma's injuries.

Giving the lovebirds space, I walk down to the nurses station. Matt and Chelsea need some alone time and I need to clear my head. I got the feeling he wanted to cuddle her and didn't want to do that in front of me. I get it, it's awkward. Chelsea is definitely a girl you want to hold and love up. Matt will will do that for her, he'll take good care of her. I'm not worried about that. He's one of my best friends, I wouldn't trust her in anyone else's hands.
