Chapter 9

I slept so well last night with Emma in my arms. She finally snuggled in close, with her head nestled into my neck, and her soft breath on my skin. When Em wrapped her arms around my back and pulled me closer to her, I wanted to pull her on top of me and let her snuggle in deep, but I wasn't sure she'd like us to be that intimate yet. I have to keep reminding myself to move at her pace.

The best part of sleeping with her is that it's so easy and comfortable. She isn't fussy like some girls. It was nice, cozy, and familiar to just lay there with her, but man I wanted more. I promised her we would go slow. I have to let her set our pace here, no matter how many cold showers I have to take.

When I woke up this morning, she was sprawled over my chest. It felt like Christmas morning came early for me. Her warm little body curled up into mine like it was made to fit perfectly right there. Her breath tickled my neck, her arm was thrown over my chest with her hand curled up behind my ear and those little fingers were laced into my hair. She was holding my head against hers. It was such a sexy way to wake up knowing she didn't want to let me go. Her legs were entwined with mine, pinning me to the mattress. I couldn't move without her knowing it. This is exactly how I wanted to wake up every day with her.

Then Lance busted in, ruining the moment and dragged me out for a run. I hated getting up and leaving Emma alone, but Lance was pushing me to go. I really didn't want to wake her up, so I had to slip out, real sly-like.

I was hoping we could get our run in and get back before she woke. I planned to crawl right back into bed with her and wake my girl up the right way. My girl better still be in bed when I get back or Lance is gonna catch some shit from me if I missed out on that little wake up.

Maybe we can bring back some breakfast from her favorite coffee place here that we stopped at yesterday. I bet she'd like some tea and a scone brought to her in bed. Man, I plan on spoiling her. Everything I can do to make her feel special. I'm going to do it. I want her to know she's it for me.

It was a gorgeous morning for a run though. That's something I do love about California. Everyday is gorgeous here. Maybe when my contract is up, I'll have Matt see about a deal with the Chargers or the Niners. I could play on either team. The Bay would work for me and get me closer to my girl. Her life is here in Southern California and mine is all over the place. I'm willing to relocate anywhere for her. I've been thinking about this for a while now. I'm not happy with the way things are going in Denver as it is. My contract is coming up for negotiation. Maybe it's time for a change.

I think it's time for a lot of things to change for the better. Starting with Emma and me.

"Move your ass, Lance!" I yelled over my shoulder. I hurdled a parking curb and took off at a full out run through the parking lot towards the road. I laughed as I looked back at the freaked out expression on my best friend's face, when he saw the number of girls that were following along behind us and moving in fast. Lance tossed what was left of his shirt off his wrist and was hot on my heels. But I could hear the stampede of feet pounding the ground behind me.

"Are you fucking kidding me?!" Lance yelled at me as we raced, trying to get away from the group of crazy girls that were after us. "Your fans are fucking nuts, Blake! You know that?"

Apparently being mauled by a bunch of bikini clad girls down on the beach, is not Lance's thing. It's not mine either, but I was not the one screaming like a little girl as I ran away. I was, however, laughing my ass off as three of them tackled Lance and ripped his shirt off him. I guess running on the beach before we left this morning wasn't a good idea after all.
