It had been almost two weeks since Mom and Harry got engaged and I was back from filming in Toronto, preparing for the end of term.
I'm in my final year at school. I'm taking my A-Levels this year and then after that I don't know what I want to do. I want to act, I've wanted to do it my whole life but I don't want to go to a drama school and be told how to do it. But I do want to go to university but I know that if I go then acting will have to go on the back burner and I don't want to do that when things are going so well in my acting career. So I'm caught up, but for right now I want to focus on A-Levels.
And right at this moment in time I want to focus on the speech I'm about to deliver. Every year at my school they have a celebration of the anniversary of our school and every year the head girl of our school delivers a speech. And as I am the Head Girl, this year it's my turn. However I haven't actually written the speech yet and the event is happening in a few days.
I got back from dinner and sat down at my desk in my room. Olivia, my best friend, came in and sat down on my bed.
"Olive, I don't know what to write in this speech." I said to her once I'd opened a new word document on my laptop.
"I won't lie Daisy, I dunno what you're gonna write either." she said before lying down on my bed on her phone. I sat at my desk for the next two hours attempting to write the speech, chopping and changing bits before eventually taking a break and learning some lines for the filming I was doing for a different TV series which I had recently started. Olive was still in my room and as usual helped me to run lines before we eventually did some work for our PE project. We both did the same lessons and were in the same boarding lessons so we both spent a lot of time together. Olive and I had known each other since we were 11 and we started at the school so we literally knew everything about each other and were completely inseparable. We had to do a presentation tomorrow and once we had finished putting it together and had practised it a few times then we decided it was almost time for bed, given that it had just turned 10. Olive went to her room, while I had a shower and then went to bed.
Over the next few days, I worked more and more on my speech. It was hard but with the help of my housemistress, I eventually managed to write the perfect speech. It soon rolled around to Thursday and it was the day of the anniversary ceremony, which was being held in London and was being attended by Harry and Mom, because the parents of the Upper Sixth Form were allowed to attend. That morning, I got up early and showered before getting dressed into my school uniform, and doing my hair into a straight ponytail, as it had to be back off our faces. I did some minimal makeup before practicing my speech a bit. Olive came to get me and we went to breakfast before heading out to the car park to get on the minibus to take us to London. The rest of the school were coming later in the morning on coaches.
The church service in the morning dragged on a bit, and as the Head Girl I have to wear this awful robe over my school uniform, which is itchy and bright red. Luckily Olive was wearing hers too, as she was the deputy head girl and we got to sit next to each other. As soon as that was over, we had to chat to old dignatories and governors before moving across to the Guildhall, in London for the lunch and speeches.
When we got there, I was too nervous to eat and so I hovered in the large lunch hall, mingling with people, including Mom and Harry. But I knew that it was almost time for my speech and I was nervous about that. The Headmistress, Mrs Gillard, who had been the headmistress since long before I was at the school, came over and asked if I was alright, I nodded, barely being able to form sentences and she told me it was time for my speech, after she had done her introduction and thanks. I nodded, and followed her over to the lectern, which was a smallish podium on one side of this massive room. It was slightly raised off of the floor, which I sort of needed, because I'm not the tallest person. I stood next to it as Mrs Gillard did her thanks and welcome.
