"Why are you smiling?" I ask.

"I love your battle scars."

"I know you can't see them anymore but knowing you went through that much, it's a lot more than I have to go through." I say. I never had to go through that much pain. My parents are still alive somewhere, when I was 17 I just packed up and left, my parents basically treated me like I was a slave. They would always yell at me about school, and not doing chores. I got tired of it.

"So what else are you upset about?" He asks, laying down and propping himself up with his elbow.

" I miss my family, they never talked to me, I was just basically a slave to them." I shiver. I grab my hoodie and pull it over my head.

"I wish you wouldn't hide yourself like you do, just embrace yourself, it's who you are."

Just the the door opened loudly with a big thud. It was Luke.

"I told you to leave." He slurs drunkly.

"Luke-please don't." Ash begs, leaving the bed. He stood up and tried to push him out.

"No, I want her gone. Or I'll get her gone." He yells and pushes Ashton back. Luke grabs my picture frame off the dresser and storms out.

"Hey! That's mine!" I yell going after him. He swings open the front door and drops it down the stone stairs out into the rain. When it hit the ground i hear the glass shattering into a million pieces.

"Go get it." He laughs evilly.

I roll my eyes and brush past him.

I felt a violent push on my shoulders sending me tumbling on the stone steps.

"LUKE!" I heard someone scream. I don't get why this is happening. I didn't do anything wrong. I thought it was all about to get better now. I guess not.

"I can't believe you-" someone else yells. I couldn't tell who it was, my ears are ringing badly and my head feels like it's pounding. I turn to see the picture blowing away in the stormy wind.

"You're going to be okay-" Calum says standing above me.

"There's an ambulance on the way, just look at me." Ashton grabs me and silently cries into my hair. I could barely hear and my vision was getting blurry.

"Do you hear me? Please don't close your eyes, look at me." He says into my ear. Even at the worst of times his face still looks happy.

"I told her to leave! She useless. She just wants attention!" Luke screams to us from at the top of the stairs.

Just as I was about to look up at Ashton my vision went black.

Is this what death feels like?

It's a welcoming feeling.

Ashton

They had taken Shay to the hospital they wouldn't let me go with her due to the deep cuts on her head and the fact that she was unconscious.

I can't believe like would hurt her like that, I know he was drunk but I never thought he would hurt her like that. I am way more than upset at him right now. I don't even know how to feel. I thought he was my brother, if he would have just listened to me this could have been avoided. I know I just met her but it feels like I've know her my whole life and that I could tell her everything. I know she could never feel the same way by how broken and torn apart she is, but I intend to put her back together, and she can be happy again. It will all take time.

I tap my foot impatiently in the waiting room with Calum and Michael. I don't know where Luke was after we left and frankly, I don't care.

"You know she's going to be okay. She'll be alright, mate." Michael pats my back.

"Umm Is Ashton here?" A nurse announces. My heart lightens, and I pop up and walk to her.

"I'm Ashton." I say.

"Well Shalynn is going to need stitches on her head where the cement has hit, can you tell me what happened?" She says heaving a pen from her desk.

"Uhm .. S-he just tripped." I stutter

As much as I wanted to be honest I couldn't eat out on Luke as much as I hated him at the moment.

After giving me a weird look, and then went on "Okay, thanks, she's getting the stitches now, she will be ready for visitors in a few minutes." The nurse smiles and walk back to my seat between Michael and Calum.

"She's getting stitches now." I announce to them and lean back and cross my arms in my chair.

"What did you tell them?" Calum asks.

"I just told them she slipped-"

"You didn't tell them the truth? She got pushed by Luke and you just told them she slipped? Are you insane?" Michael whispers. His face was shocked, and truly looked more ashamed than I felt.

"I know, I know. But I can't rat out on Luke, as much as I wanted to I couldn't." I say. He nods and the room goes silent.

**

"Shay is ready for visitors, follow me." The nurse says and we do as told. A few rooms down was Shay.

"She's still a little loopy." The doctor says. "But she'll be ready to go home tonight, just make sure she gets lots of sleep."

"Thank you so much." I say and he walks out.

"Hey girly, you okay?" I squeeze her hand. My heart leaps as she squeezes it back and looks up at me.

They had put her in a hospital gown and covered her in blankets. her head was wrapped in gauze.

"Yeah," she sits up. "Hi guys." She waves.

"Hey, glad you're okay." Michael says and sits at the end of the bed, next to her feet.

"Where's Luke? I want to talk to him abo-"

"No, he's not getting near you again, he could have killed you." I say cutting her off.

"He won't hurt me, he was just drinking and his emotions took him over." She says lightly. Her voice sounded weak, and uneven.

"How could you say that after he pushed you down a flight of stairs? He's not getting near you ever again, and I'll make sure of it."

I can't let this happen again, if he even lays a finger on her I swear to god I will knock him out. He has no right at all to touch her or even push her for that matter. I was furious. I'm usually the happiest person in the group but I just can't believe what happened.

"Ash, calm down he wouldn't do that again, he never meant to hurt her, I'm on Shay's side, he was just too drunk to know what's going on." Calum buds in.

"I don't care! She could have died! And it would have been all my fault!" I yell. Tears start to form in my eyes, but I push them back. She squeezes my hand again, tighter than the last.

The heart monitor starts racing as her heart rate increases, the doctor come rushing in the room, saying things I have no idea what they are.

"I'm sorry but you guys need to leave." They say and try to push us out of the room.

"What's going on!? Tell me!" I yell fighting back.

"Her heart rate is way to high, we need to stabilize it before she gets anymore visitors. She just having a panic attack. I suggest you guys go home, we will contact you tomorrow." The doctor shouted and slammed the door and closing the blinds.

The tears roll down my cheeks, I let them out not trying to hold them in any longer.

It was my fault..
