Nutkit woke up earlier than her mother and litter mates. She felt the warm feeling of her brother, Darkenedkit next to her. She heard and felt the soft snoring of everyone in the nursery. She tried to go back to sleep, but she was too awake now. She started thinking about how she would be an apprentice in two moons. She thought about how exciting it would be. She tried to go to sleep once more, but again, her thoughts kept her wide awake. Maybe I could practice hunting... she thought. She tried to distract herself, as she knew this was against the warrior code, but she couldn't stop thinking about it. So she got up quietly, careful to not step on anybody's tail, and slipped out of the camp. She saw Stormclaw, Orangepelt and Whitestripe were awake too. She just stood still and tried to blend in with her environment. Somehow, it managed to work. The group of warriors passed by. Nutkit smirked, proud that her plan worked. She was sure nothing could stop her now.
So she headed out of camp. She wasn't sure where she was going, but she knew it would probably be a great adventure either way. Her little paws carried her to a small river. She was intrigued by this river, as she had never seen one before. She stepped in and felt the cold, wet water come up to her haunches. For most kits this would be terrifying, but to Nutkit it was something worth exploring.
Suddenly, something hit her paw. She gasped and looked to see that fish were coming her way! She brought her claws out and swiped at one of the fish. But to her surprise, the fish was stronger than she thought, and she screeched at in made her topple over. She barely managed to scramble back onto the surface. She knew she had better get back to the nursery, otherwise she would be crowfood!
She hurried and ran as fast as her paws would take her. She finally arrived, lying down in the same spot she was sitting in before. She didn't even think about explaining why her fur was wet all of a sudden.

When she woke up again, she heard the voice of her mother, Longclaw. "Nutkit," She said in an angrily confused tone. "Yes?" Nutkit responded standing up. "Do you mind explaining to me why you smell like you've been near fish, let alone why your fur is wet?" Nutkit gulped. She knew she was in trouble. She then tried to tell a story, stumbling with her words and pausing between sentences. "Enough of this nonsense," Longclaw meowed to her kit. "You must tell me the truth." Nutkit sighed, holding back a cry. She explained the story truthfully and honestly, her ears flat the entire time. "Oh, Nutkit!" Longclaw mewed, starting to lick her kit. "That's very dangerous!" Nutkit sighed and said "I know, and I'm sorry." Longclaw purred and stopped licking Nutkit. "You are going to have to be punished for this, Nutkit" She meowed. Nutkit's ears went flat against her head again and pleaded "No, mama! Please!" Her mother sighed and said "come, we must ask Gloomstar what to do." Gloomstar was on his rock, enjoying a mouse until he saw Longclaw and Nutkit approaching him. "O-oh" he said dropping the mouse. "What's up?"
"Nutkit went to the river all by herself" Longclaw told him. "Oh, how wonderful!" He replied without thinking. Nutkit was confused, and Gloomstar could see that. "Sorry, I mean yes" he mewed. "You must be punished." It was strange, Gloomstar was the one who looked as though he would burst. Nutkit thought she would've been the one getting so worked up. Longclaw sighed, her face unreadable. Gloomstar spoke again. "I will let your mother decide what to do with you" he said. Nutkit glanced at Longclaw but she didn't look back. "Very well then, Gloomstar" Longclaw said, her sharp claws flexing in and out.
They padded back to the nursery. The suspense was killing Nutkit. She just wanted to know her punishment and get it over with. And finally, her mother spoke. "I don't know what to do with you, little one" she said sighing. Nutkit felt guilt build up in her chest again. "But I'll let you go this time." Joy overflowed Nutkit. "Thank you!" She purred to her mother. "Go play with your brother" Longclaw replies playfully. So Nutkit did so.
"So I heard you got in trouble" Darkenedkit mewed to Nutkit. "Not anymore!" Nutkit bragged. "What?" Darkenedkit kit growled. "That's not fair!" "Too bad, so sad" Nutkit teased. "Find then" Darkenedkit smirked swaying his tail back and forth. "I guess I'll punish you myself!"
He pinned her down onto the ground and chuckled. But Nutkit had a counter attack. She flipped them over, and when she was on top, she got off.
"Serves you right" Nutkit said, basking in her victory. "You won this time," Darkenedkit said giving his chest an embarrassed lick. "But I'll get you next time."
Nutkit giggled and they both lay down tired from their battle.
