Nutpaw got up. What? Where am I? She stood on a cloud like surface. She could smell all sorts of cats. "Nutpaw!" A familiar she-cat mewed. She turned around and saw Longclaw. "M-mother?" Nutpaw was confused. Wasn't Longclaw dead? Longclaw ran up to her and nuzzled with her kit. "But... aren't you d-dead?" Nutpaw asked, confusion in her tone. "Yes, and that's why we're in Starclan."
"W-what? Am I dead too?!" Longclaw licked Nutpaw. "No, no" She meowed calmly. "You're dreaming." Nutpaw looked down. "Oh..." she started thinking. She knew that cats usually dreamt of Starclan because of something important. She was going to ask, but it seemed Longclaw already knew. "I really don't have a prophecy for you, if that's what your about to ask. But hopefully one day I will."
Nutpaw woke up to the sound of Darkenedpaw's voice. "Leave me alone" Nutpaw groaned. "It's time for training!" She got up and yawned. She looked down and saw Smallpaw still sleeping soundly. Her and Darkenedpaw slipped out of the den. They waited next to each other, Nutpaw still thinking about her dream. But this time, Mudspeed arrived quickly. Nutpaw watched him step out of the warrior's den swiftly and run to his apprentice. "Let's go, Nutpaw" he mewed. He started walking and Nutpaw followed. They headed to training grounds as normal. Mudspeed turned around fast. "Today, we aren't hunting" he meowed. Nutpaw sat down. "Oh... then what are we doing?" Mudspeed also sat down. "I will teach you battle moves." Nutpaw looked surprised. "Really? I'm old enough?" Mudspeed nodded. "Of course!" He hissed. "You've been an apprentice for a while now." Nutpaw still wasn't convinced. "But... I haven't learned to catch birds yet!" She meowed, making an excuse. "Nutpaw," Mudspeed sighed. "Do you really want to end up like your mother?" Her ears and tail perked and she stood up. "My mother was a great warrior!" She hissed suddenly. Mudspeed wasn't affected. "I know," he mewed, regretting his remark. "All I'm saying is you should always be prepared for a battle." Nutpaw looked down, her tail dropping to the floor. "I... guess you're right" She meowed quietly. Mudspeed nodded. "So do you wish to begin?" He asked her, trying to be gentle with his tone. "Sure!" Nutpaw mewed, suddenly looking happy again. "Great," her mentor purred.
Mudspeed spent the afternoon teaching Nutpaw all the battle moves he knew. And after that he taught her how to catch birds, and she caught a sparrow. Mudspeed congratulated her and she brought the food to the elders den. She met Spottedpelt. "You an apprentice?" He asked, his eyes slits. "Um... yeah. I brought you some prey" Nutpaw mewed, passing the sparrow to him. He picked it up. "Nutpaw, right?" He meowed with a mouthful of feathers. He didn't wait for a response. "Laketoes talks 'bout you lots" he mewed. Nutpaw felt a wave of happiness go through her. "Really?" She blurted out, her hazel eyes shining. Spottedpelt gave a mrrow of laughter. "Yeah! Everyday for a while!" Spottedpelt sat down. "She'd look out the den to see which apprentice came. She's just as sappy with any other apprentice, but I can tell she likes you the best."
Those words made Nutpaw feel no sadness. "Where is she now?" She purred. "She's got a cold" Spottedpelt sighed. "She'd be in the nursery." Nutpaw looked down. "Oh..." she mewed. "Do you think I could visit her?" She said with a quiet purr. "Eh, probably" he responded with a shrug. "Thanks, Spottedpelt!" Nutpaw said, touching her nose to his cheek. His fur was wiry, but oddly comforting. "I'll speak to you soon" she mewed, running to the medicine cat den. Standing in front of it was the medicine cat apprentice. "Hey, Brownpaw!" Nutpaw mewed. Brownpaw nodded his response. "Is it okay if I visit Laketoes?" Brownpaw looked at her in confusion. "I don't think that's the best idea, Nutpaw. She's got a cold" he mewed firmly. "Please! I haven't seen her for a while!" Nutpaw hissed impatiently. "What? You need another mom or something?" Brownpaw blurted out. Nutpaw took a few steps back. Brownpaw regretted that immediately. He tried to apologize but Nutpaw didn't listen. "You're... you're a mousebrain! You're even worse! You're an ant brain!" She growled, running all the way to the apprentice's den. She cried for a few minutes until Smallpaw walked into the den. "Nutpaw? What's wrong?" He mewed. "Go away!" She meowed with anger in her meow. But Smallpaw wasn't afraid. He licked her fur, trying to keep her calm. Eventually, she felt better. They both fell asleep and took a long nap.
