"I'm telling you, something is going on! And she is 100% in on it!" Dawn insisted to his sister. Milly rolled her eyes dramatically. "Seriously? She said she's here for work, clearly knows how things work around here, and looks like she could beat the crap out of somebody. My guess is that she works with the security team here. Hell! She might even be a Protector for all we know! But is it an issue that affects us? No. We literally just met her. Stop being so nosy. You go on after this next round."

"Yeah. But... don't you wanna know a bit more about her?" Dawn was trying his best not to let his voice crack as he spoke with a weak smile. His brain was swimming with all the questions he wanted to ask Elaina. Like, what was she going to tell him? Why was she here? What's her job? Does she have a 'talent'? What is her 'talent'? How old is she? Is she single?

...wait. What!?

Dawn blinked a few times. Where did that thought come from? He thought Elaina was interesting, sure, but not it that way... right?

There was no way he had feelings for someone he just met. Hell! He even teased his sister earlier about having a crush on the girl. So there's no way that's what's going on. He just wants to know more about the person who saved him, that's all!

"Listen bro. She gave us her number, so that means she wants to hang out more! Simple. We just get to know her the old fashion way! Besides, we both could use a friend. Mom would be so relieved to have found out dad hadn't totally ruined our chances of having a social life!" The levels of sass in Milly's voice was through the roof. He just glared at his sister as he got ready to leave for his match.

She just smiled back as she sent him off with her last words. "Good luck out there, bro. You're going to need it! And don't worry about Elaina, she's a big girl with her own life. Fate ain't going to make you the center of it! Now go kick some spoiled dick's ass!" Her grin was almost sinister as she finished.

Dawn let out a defeated sigh as he thanked her and took his lead. Walking around to the prep area gave his brain time to wander. It wasn't his fault that it wandered to Elaina. There was just something that captured his interest in her. Her flame shaped scar that creeped up her face. The loose way she held herself most of the time. The sudden shift of atmosphere when she did straighten up. How she just let her hair do whatever and it still look good. How her tired eyes could be so cold but also so warm. The fury in them when that disgusting lady insulted her and creeped on him. How scared but also safe he felt when it happened. How soft her hand felt when he held it. The almost sense of belonging that jolted through him. How he didn't want to let go... CRAP.

Dawn has it bad.
