A day or two of basic training and Chief was already sending them off into the city. He claimed that it would quicken the learning experience, but Dawn knew better. It grew very obvious to everyone that Nyxie made Chief... uneasy at best. Granted no one on staff seemed to like her, but Chief almost feared her. It was worrisome, but Dawn decided not to dwell on it. The matter was between them, and they were both his higher-ups.
"So, do you think we'll run into any villains?" Julie's voice was laced in excitement as she skipped down the sidewalk just ahead of Dawn and Milly. "Or maybe help rescue civilians from danger??"
Dawn felt his heart pick up pace a smidge. They were assigned to patrol a very quiet part of town, 2nd street. Dawn was well acquainted of it due to their mother's work place being located right in the middle of it. A mixture of office buildings and cute shops, sprinkled with an apartment complex or two. The area was infamous for two things: low crime rates, and a high number of suicide. No one could really explain the cause of either, but Dawn had some theories. However, right now they had a job to do. Their group was obviously put in that location for early response purposes. Dawn's talent alone was probably the driving factor of that decision. But, as Dawn quickly discovered, Julie was a tad naïve to these sorts of things.
Milly's eyes rolled at the enthusiasm of the redhead. What had begun as investment from her had now become a drained tolerance. Dawn couldn't help but chuckle. He decided it'd be best if he handled this one. "Nah, they're not going to assume that WE are ready for anything on that level anytime soo—"
His words were cut off by the eruption of an explosion at the end of the street followed by inaudible swearing.
Climbing up out of a hole in the cement covered in dust was Nyxie! In her arms was a young girl, and floating about her a fairly well known Protector, Seismic-Split. Dawn was surprised to see him here. Seismic-Split was an up and coming Protector that, besides Star-Hero, was the most popular over all forms of media. He mostly hung around the more crime heavy areas then suck up all the praise for his "just deeds." His full head mask and goggles, along with his signature leather coat with the sleeves rolled up was hard to miss. Milly often said that he was a Protector just to stroke his ego.
Without hesitation the three of them ran over to the Protectors, just in time to get some context. And lord knows they needed it.
There stood a mangled, twisted and bloody Nyxie, passing Seismic-Split an unharmed child, all while he held through his mask a sincere expression that was never seen by the public. Nyxie sat down when she knew he had the girl. Coughing up some blood she turned to him.
"Split, could you take her to the hospital for me? I need to heal. I know that she's physically fine, but she did just jump from a ten story building... and at such a young age. She needs someone to keep an eye on her..." The concerned Split nodded but added on. "Don't go anywhere, I'll be right back!" And just like that he and the little girl were gone. Leaving the walking road kill that was Nyxie.
The three rookies were speechless. They just couldn't quite get the nerve to announce that they were present. They just watched as Nyxie's body slowly pulled itself together till the only evidence of her injuries was the blood on her costume. It was still an unpleasant scene.
When she finally noticed them as she greeted them warmly. "Hey rookies! How's the patrol going?"
Julie fainted right there on the spot.
Nyxie looked questionable at the other two. "That good huh?"
