"WE'RE GOING TO BE LATE!!!"

Milly's voice rang through the house as she ran around getting ready. Dawn grumbled into his sandwich, his head pounding from the noise. "Who's fault is that I wonder?" Haven't we been here before? Milly's stressed, mom's at work, and I got like no sleep...
He slowly blinked as his eyes followed his sister rushing around the living room. The memory of that night's dream flooded back to him.

It was different than the other dreams he's had. Everything around him was black, all but the  figure who's been haunting him his whole life. They turned to him with a smile so familiar that made him freeze. "I'm so glad you found me, I was beginning to think you got us both lost!" As they laughed, it echoed in the darkness. They reached out a took his hand, and began to lead him forward, him not being able to resist. "She said the cliff was just past the chapel, we're almost there!" Dawn was confused, there was no chapel or cliff he could see, just them. "I know that you said that you don't believe me... but just look!" They excitedly rushed to a spot and stopped. "Auntie always said that the old world once had a bridge that connected here, and that the old chapel is all that's left of them." Their eyes were fixed on an unseen horizon, a focus that seemed to familiar for comfort. Dawn wanted to speak, but nothing could come out. The figure's hand tightened in his. "Do you think truth is anything more than a broken lie?" They turned to him, eyes full of tears. " I'm not ready for..." They rapped both arms around him and sobbed for what felt like a lifetime. Suddenly, Dawn was pulled into a kiss. Before he could process what was happening, he heard their voice but they were no longer there. "I'm going to miss you, my love."

The feeling of falling overcame him.

He had awoken that morning with tears in his eyes.

And he didn't go back to sleep.

His eyes were watering as he finished his sandwich. Quickly wiping them away so his sister wouldn't see. He was confused. What that a moment in the future? The past? Who was the person he always saw since the girl disappeared? Who's body was he in for those dreams? Why did it move him to cry? Why was this one different?

So many questions and no answers.

Story of his life.

"Daaaawwwnnn!!! We gotta go!" Milly's voice broke his train of thought. "Then let's go! Elaina didn't get us a gig just so we can miss the first day!" Dawn felt the smile form as he said Elaina's name. God he had it bad! But did he care? Nope! She was amazing! And she got them an in to the Protector program... though they insisted against it. But Elaina's mind was made up, even if Milly's was set on doing it all on their own. Elaina's words echoed in his head. 'Getting approved for the training process is impossible if you don't have a recommendation... they take it as you not having enough of an impact to stand out against the rest... and we can't have that!'

"Alight sassy pants let's go!!"

As they left Dawn felt the smile on his face growing.

Things were looking up.
