I spent two weeks with Paul, time flew by very quickly when I was with him. It was now mid june, He was a lot of fun, but I really missed all my other friends like Austin, Vince, Sean, David, especially David.
I haven't talked to or texted any of them since I left.
Paul and I were starting to look more like a couple, we were cute but nothing real.
My piercings were all doing great, they weren't as sore anymore and the swelling of my tongue has finally quit.
I stared at Paul, he was driving Vince's grandpas jeep and he looked great.
The wind was blowing back his redish hair, which looked a lot like mine.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"A field." He smiled.
"Why?" I laughed.
"Because...you'll see." He kept his eyes on the rode and a smile on his face.
Whenever I thought of fields I thought of Shane, the moment he told me the truth.
I stared out the window remembering that day with Shane, it seemed like it was happening all over again.
I could still feel the cold and hot tears that were streaming down my face that day in the field and the cramps that were in my feet while I was walking to the gas station.
Paul grabbed my hand to hold it while driving and I snatched it away.
Just like I had done with Shane in that field.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." I responded quickly to my action.
Paul looked confused.
He stopped the jeep in the field.
"Mary, I have to ask you something." Paul smiled.
Shit.
"What is it..?" I asked nervous, I was afraid I already knew what he was about to ask me.
"Will you be my girlfriend?" He asked.
I gasped a bit, I'm not sure why though. I wasn't shocked by the question, that's what I thought he was going to ask me. And I wasn't excited either.
"Paul.."
He wrinkled his forehead "well..?"
"I was just thinking, about my friends. I haven't seen them in two weeks, I miss them. I really need to stop messing around and go home." I swallowed.
"Oh.." Paul looked hurt.
"I'm so sorry, I just need them now. So I was thinking about going home..today." I stated.
"Today??? That's so early." Paul shook his head.
"I've had a lot of fun the past two weeks, but I need to catch up and face reality." I said.
"So 'we' were never reality?" Paul looked more angry now.
"You're taking it the wrong way, of course we will stay in contact I just need to visit my friends. I won't be gone forever." I stood up.
Paul played with the grass.
"Then lets get back to my house, so you can get your things." He got into the jeep.
The ride to his house was silent, when we arrived Paul seemed perfectly fine with me leaving him.
"You can text me whenever." I smiled at him.
I was now in the drivers seat ready to go to my old home, no not with my fucker parents but to my best friends.
"I'll cya around Mary." I drove off and Paul waved, I'm glad that went well.
