I woke up in someone else's bed.
In Marshall's bed.He was right next to me. So close.
It was really cold in the apartment, and he was wearing nothing but boxers.
I covered his body in a blanket. Not that I didn't want to see his body - he's in a good shape. I just didn't want him to be cold.I checked the time. 7:40 am.
"Fuck" I whispered. Well, whispered, but loudly. I was already running late to work.I was completely naked, and since we threw our clothes all over the place it wasn't really easy to search for it. I wrapped my body in another blanket and started to pick up every piece of my clothing.
And I wasn't really quiet.
"What's the rush?" Marshall asked with a hint of tiredness in his voice.
"I'm running late to work"
"Jeez, relax. I'll take you there" I really hate it when someone says 'relax' to me.
"I need to be in time, or Evan will whip my ass," I said as I picked up the last part of my yesterday's outfit.
"He will do what?" Marshall quickly sat up."Jeez, nothing. You better get up and get dressed. I need to go" I said in one breath and threw a shirt at him.
"If he'll ever touch that sweet ass of yours, I'll touch his ribs, yo" I've heard him yell from the bedroom.I quickly checked my reflection in the mirror, but I didn't really have the time to do something about my face.
Bra, panties, pants, hoodie. Quick quick.7:55. Not good.
Marshall was already waiting at the front door.
"About the time" he mocked me.
"Shut up" I hit his arm slightly."Do you know where that pet shop is?" I asked Marshall as he drove the car from the parking lot.
"No, I've been only living in Detroit since I was born," he said sarcastically, and I rolled my eyes at his comment.
"Don't roll 'em on me"
I turned my head at him, with 'are you serious' face.
"Don't roll your eyes. Just don't" I turned my head away and sighed. The ride was silent until we stopped infront of the petshop. Evan was already inside, and I guess he noticed us.
"That's him?" Marshall pointed in Evan's. direction.
"Yeah, that's Evan"He gulped and fell silent for a second.
What was that supposed to mean?"Aight, see ya babe" he rubbed my thigh and kissed me.
"Are you gonna be home tonight?"
Marshall took a quick look at Evan before he answered.
"Probably no. Just go home after work" he said and turned the engine on.
"Whatever" was all I said before I get off Marshalľs car. I knew that I will miss him.
And the fact that I didn't know what he's up to made me feel even worse."Hey, sorry. I forgot to set my alarm" I gave him a really lame excuse, again.
"Hey yourself," he said without even looking at me.
I quickly changed into that ugly orange shirt and made my way to the cash register."So how was your date?"
I smirked to myself. Thinking about our make-out session with Marshall.
"It was not a date. But it was fun, thanks" I shrugged.
"It was not a date?" Evan asked, and I could see that his mood changed.
"No, it was not a date. Are you deaf?"
"Damn, relax girl"
Relax. Again? The time passed slowly. Like really slowly. It was a pretty boring day at work. Plus, I was still thinking about Marshall. I know he's not at work tonight. So why can't he spend some time with me? Especially after what happened between us last night?
Maybe I was overthinking it.
Maybe not.All done, I was ready to go home.
"Need a ride?" Evan asked me just right before I stepped out of the store.
Why not?
"Yeah, sure. Good" I gave him a smile. He deserves it.
He locked the cash register and turned the lights off."Alright, leťs go" Evan placed his hand on my back. I thought it was just a gesture, so I let it be.
The ride wasn't as silent as the one with Marshall in the morning. We've talked about Detroit, about last night. And he seemed a bit concerned when I mentioned Rufus', Ondre's and Deshaun's name. Maybe he knows them?
If he would know them, he'd let me know, right? We pulled up into the motel parking lot.
"Thanks, see you tomorrow," I said and opened the door.
"Wait" Evan grabbed my shoulder and pulled me back.
"What?"
"I was wondering if you'd go out with me. Sometime" he said as he rubbed the back of his neck.
What about Marshall? What would he say?
"You mean.. A date?"
"Um, not really a date. Just you know, go out and have fun. Maybe something like a teambuilding?" Evan chuckled nervously.
Should I? I mean, we can go out as friends. There's nothing going on between me and Evan.
Just friends."Alright, I'll go. I just don't know when"
"Sure, just let me know whenever you'll feel like it"
"Okay, I will" I gave him a quick smile and opened the door again.I don't really like to be outside this late when it's this dark outside. Even tho I'm not far from my apartment, I still feel unsafe.
I was on my way to my apartment when I've heard a few voices coming out from behind the corner. All I could catch was "Marshall" and something that sounded like "shelter".
I came closer so I could hear them.a: "You've heard bout that new Shelter guy?"
b: "Yeah, he's a pain in the ass tho. Especially for Papa Doc"
a: "He has some guts to stick his nose into his business tho"I couldn't hear more, because they disappeared behind apartment door.
What was that supposed to mean?
Is Marshall in danger? And of course, he wasn't at home.
