"Hey, Mel, want to go out and explore the neighborhood?" I suggest. Mel started coming at my house almost every weekend because her grandparents live close.
"Yeah, sure, why not" she responds.
"Mom, I and Mel are going out!" I shout to my mom.
"Okay sweetie, just be safe and don't stay out too late. Be home at 11pm sharp" my mom says as she changes the channel on the TV from FoxLife to FLN. She really likes watching people buying houses.
"We will. I'm sure we won't stay that long" I say as I put on my shoes.
"I heard that there is a park nearby, let's go there" Mel says enthusiastically as she grabs her bag.
The walk was short so we arrive in 15 minutes.
There are some kids with their parents here. There are also people walking their dogs. Their cute, cute dogs... I love dogs soooo much I can just hug them forever. Honestly if you put me in a room filled with dogs I would never come out, not even if you tell me that I need to get out to save the world or if you offer me million dollars. They make me so happy. Every time I see a dog my stress reduces to zero.
This park is pretty nice. It has a playground where the kids can play, it has grass area where animals can play, there are a lot of benches where parents and owners can sit watching their children or pet. The landscaping is done really good too. There are a lot of trees casting shadows at the benches. In the middle of it there is a giant fancy white fountain with the usual decorations.
"Hey look, it's a chow chow" I say running to it. Mel sighs and starts following me. She knows how crazy I get when I see dogs, especially chow chows because it's my favorite breed. They're like big teddy bears with their thick coat. Plus they have blue tongue, they're really cool.
"Slow down Cher" she sighs combing her hand through her hair.
"Aren't you a cutie" I say petting its head. It's with a brown-reddish fur and bright brown eyes.
"What's its name?" I ask looking up at the owner. He looks familiar.
He has brown hair, a little bit curly, brown eyes, defined jawline and a white toothy smile. He looks like he just came out of a toothpaste commercial.
"His name is Mayhem" he answers smiling.
"Oh, nice." I chuckle.
"Yeah, my mom wanted to name him that" he shrugged.
"How old is he?" I ask while I get up.
"He's two, we adopted him as a puppy" he says tugging on Mayhem's leash as he catches a sight of cats running around in a circle.
"Oh wow I thought he was older. I mean he looks kind of old. And his name sounds old and cheesy too. It's like naming a white dog Rice, or a brown dog Dirt, or some big dog Rex. Oh did you know that Rex in Latin stands for king?" I start blabbering. I hate this. Every time I get nervous I start speaking random stuff at people. Why am I nervous?
"I'm so sorry, I don't know what has gotten into her now" Mel says cutting in and saving my ass. "Anyway I'm Melanie and this blabbering girl next to me is called Cherry, like the fruit" she states.
"Nice to meet you Melanie and Cherry like the fruit, my name is Lion, like the animal." He says smiling while trying to calm Mayhem down by pulling his leash. "And I don't mind, your blabbering is kind of cute."
"Nice to meet you too, Lion." Mel says smiling.
I just stand there, not saying a word. Starring at the GOD that stands before me. How does he look so perfect. And why did he say those words? Okay I've found the reason that I'm nervous. I don't even know him.
Mayhem starts tugging the leash stronger. He almost would have bumped into me if I wouldn't have moved out of the way.
"Well, I got to go haha, see you guys around I hope" He says following the tugging dog going towards a scared cat. That poor cat.
"See you around" I say in awe and Mel says it nonchalant.
"Shit, we forgot to get his number" Mel curses.
"Whoa whoa whoa, hold your horses Mel. Do I need to remind you about Mat?" I ask cocking an eyebrow playfully.
"I meant for you. You got to start dating, right now." Mel states.
"Cut me some slack Mel, I just moved. I need time to adjust here" I explain loosing my playfulness.
"Anyway, what was that all about?" Mel asks.
"Nothing...." I mumble walking towards the swings that are in the park. I avoid the conversation about boyfriends because she'll never stop torturing me about that.
"That was not nothing." she says and starts scratching her head like she's trying to think of something.
It's like a light bulb switches on in her head.
"You usually start blabbering to someone you feel nervous around, am I wrong?" she says sitting on the right swing. God damn it, she knows me too well.
"NO." I say firmly. "I wasn't nervous, I just like dogs so much that I start blabbering to the owners about them...." I say sitting on the left swing.
"Suuuuuuure" she says, chuckling.
"Shut up" I say as I start swinging.
"Hey, I'm going to head home. Matt said that he'll meet me there in an hour and it's a pretty long ride from here to there." Mel says after a while and stops swinging.
"You're leaving me for him?" I act shocked and put my hand on my chest.
"Yes, I'm so sorry, it's not you, it's me. I started liking another guy... I'm sorry" she says wiping her fake tears.
"OH MY GOD HOW DARE YOU???" I shout in despair jumping from the swing.
"I'm so sorry, I've never wanted to hurt you" she tries to hold her laughter longer.
"Don't you dare speak to me again!" I shout turning away from her.
Some people turn their heads towards us.
Mel starts laughing hysterically to the point where real tears start to fall from her eyes and I soon join in.
After a couple of minutes of our 'show' I say good bye to Mel and head home.
