"Ugh, Skyyy, where are you?"
Jane was sick of waiting for her best friend, Skylar, to come over. She was waiting on the docks.
The night was chilly, hence the strong winds and the leaves falling to the ground. Jane wrapped herself in a thick, blue blanket. Sky should be here soon.
She sighs, and she stared into the water. Suddenly, a face popped up. Jane was taken aback as the face popped out of the water.
It was a boy, with ginger hair, blue eyes, and freckles. He looked up at her and smiled.
"Hey," he whispered. "Couldn't be patient enough?"
Jane grinned. "Hey," she whispered back. "Couldn't be fast enough?"
He smiled, and he pulled himself out of the water to sit next to her. "Sorry, my mom was trying to chat."
"Well, I don't blame her."
"Me either." Sky looked at his long, dark blue tail.
He could recall when he discovered he was a merman. About a few months ago, his parents confessed that he was adopted. Enraged by the lie, he escaped to his favorite place: the cove. He decided to take a swim before meeting up with Jane. During this time, he started to feel tingly. As he looked towards the sky, the water he was in began to bubble. It stopped eventually, and his legs were conjoined to be a tail. He panicked, and began calling out for Jane. She eventually came, her bun in a knot. She stared in shock at his friend's new form. It was at this moment that a beautiful mermaid came to him. His birth mother.
Ever since then, Sky lived with his mom underwater. It was okay, it was just lonely for him. The others around him were nice, but he surprisingly missed school, and his friends. Even his adopted parents.
Sky and Jane talked for hours, catching up with each other, seeing how things were going. Things seemed mostly normal.
Sky heard a soft noise, what sounded similar to singing. He looked around for the source of the noise.
"Dude, what's wrong?" Jane asked. Sky put his index finger up for a moment, before going back into the water.
"There's a siren," he responded.
Jane tilted her head. "So..."
"So? So it means someone's in danger. C'mon."
Jane grabbed his hand and went on his back. The water was freezing, like ice.
Sky and Jane swam until they came across a young woman. The woman was on the rock, singing. She was looking at something.
Jane looked up and her eyes widened. Her classmate, Nate, was on the edge of a cliff. She hurried off of Sky and ran up there before Sky could protest. He decided to swim to the siren.
He pounced on her, and the two had a fight underwater. Sky felt a sharp pain as claws dig into his shoulder. Sky punched the siren, which knocked her out.
As he reached the surface, he found the human falling. Quickly, he used his powers to catch the human.
Jane went quickly down the hill.
Sky held Nate in his arms and got him on shore. Jane ran up to them, panting. "Oh my god, is he okay?" She asked breathlessly.
Sky nodded. "He's just passed out."
Nate opened his eyes slightly, looking at Sky. They stared at each other for a while, before Sky snuck back into the ocean.
Man, thought Jane. He's so gay.
