"How was your day with your mom?" I asked Raelynn.
"It was great but she told me she's moving later this week," she frowned.
"Aw, I'm sorry. I know she was the only family you have left here," I comforted her.
"I know, but it'd be good for her. I hope moving back to Arizona will be good for her. She was never happy in LA anyway." She sat in silence, clearly upset by her mother's announcement. I sat beside her, giving her a side hug, laying a kiss on her forehead.
"It's my birthday, I shouldn't be upset," she chirped. I adored how she always tried having a positive mood.
"Today's gonna be great, I promise you," I smiled.
"Grayson, you know I hate surprises. Yesterday already tired me out," Raelynn whined, trying to hide a smile.
"I know you do but it's your birthday so suck it up, princess," I chuckled.
"Whatever, what should I wear?"
"Wear something fancy. Ooh, wear that sexy, red dress I gave you," I smirked.
"That dress is way too short, no thank you," she responds, walking into her closet.
"That's why it's sexy," I laughed.
My phone vibrated with messages from Addison and Jonah telling me to meet them.
"Rae, I've got to go but I'll be here at 7."
She walked out of her closet wrapping her arms around my neck, "Okay, see you later." She pecked my lips sending me a smile. I naturally smiled back, taking in her beautiful self.
"I lo- I'll... err... see you later, Raelynn."
Awkwardly, I walked out of her room, hoping she didn't notice what I almost said. Although I do love her, I want to say it when I think it's right.
Driving to Addison's house, I grinned thinking about the gift for Raelynn. I was excited to spend time with her, alone. Hopefully, then, I can ask her to be my girlfriend.
I drove into Addison's front yard, ringing the doorbell.
"Finally, what was taking you so long," Addy exclaimed.
"I was still with Raelynn."
I walked into the house, sitting on the couch. "Have you made the reservations?" I asked.
"Yeah, I called a few hours ago to check," Addison answered.
"Are you sure? Maybe call again and-"
Addison cut me off, "Grayson, everything's fine. Don't stress over this too much. I know she'll be happy with it anyway."
"I know, I just want it to be perfect for her. She never had great birthdays," I sighed.
Addison sat next to me and put her hand on my shoulder in a comforting manner. "She'll love it, regardless. I promise."
"Are you gonna ask her," Jonah asked me.
"Hopefully, if the time is right, I might even tell her I love her." I noticed Addison's face light up and I knew she was happy for her best friend.
"Please don't tell her anything yet. I want it all to be a surprise for her."
"I won't. I'm just glad she found someone like you, Grayson. She's been through a lot and I'm glad she's safe with you," Addison smiled.
