"Steve just, calm down and quickly, tell us the problem." I said with the slightest sarcasm behind my voice. He took a couple deep breaths, sweat, literally, dripping to the ground.
"There's those stalky thingies attacking the town," he gasped out.
Just then the ground began to shake. I started to hear a slight hissing sound, metal-like, similar to the sound of crackling fire. There were three large quakes that drove everyone but me to the ground. Then silence. Something in my mind clicked and the blood (sort of) drained from my face. I clenched my teeth together and shot to the door.

I was mere steps from from the front door, when I was forced backward, dust flying in my face as the wall tumbled down. Fragments littered the floor, I coughed when I regained my balance. I opened my eyes to be 1 inch away from death. A hole had been formed in the floor in front of me, and I could still hear the slithery movement as the creature tunneled farther, and farther into the depths of the Earth.
