"Jennie Kim." She sighed, the new officer closed her folder."What exactly happened to you?"
"I left Waterside. There's really not much to it." She shrugged. "I knew a few people out of state, all these things going on really stressed me out. With people dying and the wrong people getting suspected, it felt like a witch hunt. When I got the chance to get from fresh air, I bolted for it."
"Evidence makes it seem like you got into rough handling..." Nayeon didn't buy her excuse. "are you sure that's what really happened?"
"Positive." She chimed. "As for rough handling, I caught a ride with someone I knew and we accidentally hit a deer on the way out of the neighborhood. It is pretty woody so,"
"Alright. You're done for the day. I think someone's waiting for you outside."
Nayeon watched Jennie leave, confused. Shortly after, Chanyeol peeped his head inside.
"Anything?"
"She is definitely lying. You know this place better than me, does Jennie Kim seem like the type to back out of drama?"
He snorted. "From what I've seen, she's the one who usually causes it. Why?"
"She said she left without a word to spend time with some friends out of state, to get some fresh air. I don't buy it at all, but damn, had I not been a cop, I would've believed every single word she said."
"That's like everyone else in Waterside for you." Chanyeol ran a hand through his hair. "The only thing people are good at is keeping secrets."
Nayeon pursed her lips, tapping her pen against the table.
Jennie, who had shut the door behind her, sighed heavily.
She was expecting her ride was Jisoo, or one of the girls, they insisted that after Jennie's questioning that she came down to their place.
She was sadly mistaken.
He stood against the wall near the door, slicked back black hair, and eyes landed on her instantly.
Jennie crossed her arms. "Suho, what are you doing here?"
"You think it's not my business to be here? You're my sister."
"Whatever." She took out her phone. "I've got places to be, so this conversation is going to have to wait."
"No." He stopped himself from grabbing her arm. "We have to talk now."
"I'd rather not."
"Well I rather you do. There's some matters we need to discuss about your disappearance."
She clenched her jaw, before reluctantly following him into his car.
"Well?" Jennie heard herself asking after he pulled out of the station.
"Where were you this whole time?"
"With some friends out of—"
"Shut the bullshit. You really think I'm going to believe that?"
"And tell me why you shouldn't."
"Well, for one, I see the way you look at him. There's no way you could've just left him like that so soon. And you think makeup is going to cover this mark? Cover it up all you want Jennie, but it can't conceal the truth forever." He gestured to the masked scar located on the corner of her forehead.
She was silent.
"I don't want to talk about it."
"Jennie! I'm your fucking brother!"
"You sure as hell didn't act like one!"
"Well I'm sorry, okay? I was a bitch, a complete asshole to you, and I didn't realize how much we had drifted apart until you disappeared again, and this time I didn't know why! Jennie, mom and dad may not care less about us for anything, but I do. I thought you died!"
His abrupt confession stunned Jennie. She couldn't look at him, she couldn't believe he just apologized, that the ounce of brotherly support he used to have may have not even left at all.
He pulled into the garage, parking the car. Neither of them moved, Jennie lowered her head, trying to rub away at her eyes.
"I did almost," She finally whispered. He turned his head.
"I-I did almost die. I'll tell you, but you can't tell anyone, you can't ask me why this happened, because I don't fucking know. I don't need my friends worrying, and I'm still scared whenever I look at them, because me coming back means bad news."
She ran a hand through her hair.
"It's not like I escaped or something."
"They let me go."
