Dalton's POV
"Hi Uncle Dalton." Luke said happily. I gave him a death stare. Mitch nudged my shoulder. I followed him in the kitchen. "We're going out today. Please come with us?" he pleaded. "Ok." I said. He smiled widely and wrapped his arms around me. "Thank you." he said. He let go and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
We all walked outside to Scott's van. We piled in. Scott driving, Kacey sitting in the passenger. Then in the middle row Mitch and Luke sat there and then me and Travis sat in the back.
While we were driving, Travis tapped my shoulder. I looked at him. "You did this for Mitch didn't you?" her whispered. I nodded. "Thank you." he said quietly with a wink.
We reached the park we first went to when the day they had first taken me back. I reached under my shirt and traced down the scars from that mutt of a coyote.
Everyone got out of the car. I spotted Avi and Shauna sitting next to a tree with Kevin and Kirstie. The happy couples talking and laughing. That used to be me. Laughing with my friends. I looked down at my feet. Mitch came to me and started pulling me towards everyone else.
As everyone hung out and talked, I sat under a tree with my earbuds in. Pierce The Veil blasted loudly.
Did you know I count your heartbeats before you sleep?
I bite my fingernails to bone (to bone)
I crawl back under the stairwell to a place I call my home.
My music was interrupted by someone sitting on me. I opened one eye and saw Shauna. "Hey there." she said. I chuckled. "Hey." I said closing my eyes. "Why you being a loner?" she asked. "Isn't that what a lone wolf does?" I said propping myself on my elbows. She glanced over to the group. "Come hang out with us. Please?" she asked. Due to my growing crush, I couldn't say no.
I got up and followed her to the group. I sat down next to Mitch. Well kind of. I sat at least 3 feet away from everyone.
I laid back down. Someone poked my side and I cracked my eye opened. It was Mitch. "Come on." he said holding his hand out. I looked around and saw the group walking towards the woods. I gave him a worried look. "Don't worry." he said. I grabbed his hand and tried to pull my hand away, but he had a tight grip on it. "Let it last, Dalton." he said as he rested his head on my shoulder. I didn't say anything, I just kept walking.
We reached the entrance and saw Travis messing with Luke. I looked down at my feet. "What?" Mitch said. He looked ahead. "Oh. Travis?" he asked. I nodded slightly. He patted my shoulder and ran ahead to catch up with Travis. Luke ran up to catch up with Kacey and Scott. Scott lifted him off the ground.
If only...
If only what?
That were me...
My thoughts were interrupted by someone wrapping their arms around my shoulders. I looked over and saw Travis. "Mitch told me. You know, about me messing around with Luke." he said. I looked down as soon as I felt my face heat up. "Hey, listen. I'll always love you most." he said. I scoffed. "Sure you will." I said.
Travis grabbed my shoulders and made me stop. He stood in front of me. "Dalton, I don't know if you've realized yet, but you're fucking Mitch up. He's blaming this on himself. He thinks its his fault. And to be honest, I'm starting to believe it myself. Tell me if its our fault. I have to know how to fix this." he said. I looked at him. Tears were already making their way down his face.
"You can't fix someone this broken."
