"It's so quiet. Doesn't that feel odd to anyone?" I asked suspiciously. We had walked a fair ways into the mine and hadn't come across anyone or anything.
"Yes. This feels like a trap," Slug agreed.
"Everything feels like a trap to you," Swoop bugged as he playfully punched Slug in the shoulder. Slug grumbled.
We continued to walk on in silence. I felt something warm up against my skin and noticed that my amulet was glowing near a fork in the tunnel.
"I got something," I called out. Optimus, who was in the lead, stopped and turned and looked at me.
"Left," The Prime said in his deep baritone voice. We all turned and followed him. After walking for what felt like forever, Alpha Trion spoke to me.
"I would be on guard, this feels unnatural. Decepticons never leave a single piece of Energon behind when mining, never."
"Noted," I replied, nodding my head even though he couldn't see it.
We didn't travel far when the amulet pulsed brightly, then dimmed. I stopped and backed up to see it glow brighter at a lump in the wall.
"I think I've got something," I called once more. Grimlock came over and scrapped the wall with his hand to reveal a blue crystal.
"Move," he commanded. I moved far out of range. Grimlock then pulled his mace from his back and swung it full force at the wall. I coughed as the dust settled, revealing Grimlock pulling the energon crystal from the wall. He handed it to Optimus.
"Well, that's not a lot," Slug commented.
"Hold on a second, there's a cavern on the other side," I said as I noticed a hole leading to a open room. I jogged to the hole and crawled through it. As I emerged in the room I noticed two things. One, there was no entrance besides the one I came through, and two, there was a huge pod in the center with a chunk missing it of it, almost as if it had been chewed through.
"Well, what do you see?" Smokescreen asked.
"For one, there is no entrance except the one we made, and in the middle there is a pod just sitting there," I called, turning my head even so slightly.
"Get out of there immediately!" Alpha Trion thundered in my head, urgency clear in his voice. I winced at the volume but listened to him. I ran back to the entrance and scrambled out just as I heard a whirling sound behind me. As I jumped out of the hole and landed on the ground, hundreds of little bug like creatures came flying out. I ducked and covered my head as they flew past me
"Scraplets!" Smokescreen yelled, shocked. I heard blaster fire and felt heat from a flame on my exposed skin. I got up and saw Grimlock and Optimus back to back smacking the scraplets while Slug and Swoop were melting them with their fire. Smokescreen and Wheeljack where shooting rapidly. In a few moments, it was over. Smokescreen pulled one off of himself and flung it to the ground before jumped on it, squishing it flat.
"Is that all of them?" I asked.
"No, that was only a scouting party," Grimlock muttered.
"What were they?"
"Scraplets. They eat anything metal, especially living metal. On Cybertron they wiped out hundreds of Autobots and Decepticons alike," Optimus gravely replied.
"Let's just fill that hole up and get the heck out of here," Slug declared as he started to pick up rocks to fill the hole.
"I doubt that will stop them. They always find a way, no matter what," Wheeljack doubted, still grabbing a boulder and helping Slug and filling in the hole in the wall.
"Ratchet, we require a ground bridge," Optimus said while touching his ear piece. After a few moments "Ratchet, do you read?"
"We're probably too far underground that we can't get a com signal," Wheeljack said. "I'll go and see if I can get one farther up," Wheeljack stepped away from the hole in the wall, transformed and drove off. We waited for his return while Slug patched up the wall. After a few moments, he came back.
"Hey get this, no com signal and the entrance is caved in," Wheeljack said as he transformed and walked up to us.
"Just great. We are stuck down here with Scraplets! Just great!" Smokescreen exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air.
"I suggest we move deeper in the mine. Hopefully we'll lose them," Grimlock suggested.
"I agree. Let's move," Optimus said. With that we moved deeper in the mine.
My feet got sore quickly as we walked non stop. Smokescreen noticed me walking funny. "You okay?"
"Not really. My feet are starting to hurt from all this walking," I grumbled.
"Why didn't you say something?" He asked as he placed his hand down for me to hop onto.
"I didn't want it to sound like I was complaining," I assured as I climbed on. I heard a whirling sound and all of us, at the same time, turned around. Behind us were tons of Scraplets.
"Scrap," I muttered. Slug and Scorn transformed and started to bombard the threat with fire while Optimus shot at them. Grimlock and Wheeljack pulled out their handheld weapons and got in a ready position. Smokescreen placed me on the ground behind everyone before returning to help everyone fight the vermin.
I was glad I wasn't made of metal.
