The Streets

Part 4; Stay

Waking up still laid on the sofa, I sat up straight and perched myself on the edge of the sofa. Running my hand through my hair, I shock it all out before tying it up in a messy bun and checking my phone. It was only 8:00am and I was surprised no one else was up. Tidying up the bedding Louis had set me up, I then made my way in to the kitchen where I just about managed to make myself a cup of tea. Just as I got the milk out the fridge, Lottie appeared.

“Good morning…Mollie what are you doing here?” She asked getting out 3 more mugs.

“I was practically living on the streets last night after I didn’t ‘pay my rent’ so your brother brought me in.” I explained.

“So you haven’t got a place to stay?” She guessed pouring the kettle in to the 4 mugs, one of them being mine.

“Yeah unfortunately but I’m only here for the night.” I insisted.

“Oh no, please stay another night. Stay as long as you like, sure mum won’t mind. You could have stayed in the spare room last night and you can, Lou does have his thick moments.” Lottie laughed as we heard footsteps coming through the living room.

“I can hear you Miss Tomlinson; hope you’re not saying anything rude about me.” Louis voice came.

“I was just telling Mollie that she could stay another night and this time in the spare room.” Lottie sighed as I sat at the table with my cup of tea.

“We can do that if mum doesn’t mind…” Louis began as his mum appeared.

“As its Mollie, she can stay as long as she likes. The girl is a pleasure to have around…” Jay commented.

“Thank you Jay, hopefully won’t be staying here to long.” I sighed.

“Stay as long as you like, now what you up to today?” Louis asked.

“Going to the market and finding myself a well paid job!” I replied. Hey, this was life.

With the radio playing, I stepped in the shower letting the warm water run over my body. Humming what ever was on the radio, I washed my hair with the shampoo I had provided myself. That’s when one of my favourite songs came on the radio which was ‘The A Team’ by Ed Sheeran. As the song came on, I started to sing along to it.

“White lips, pale face
Breathing in snowflakes
Burnt lungs, sour taste
Light's gone, day's end
Struggling to pay rent
Long nights, strange men

And they say
She's in the Class A Team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since 18
But lately her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting
Crumbling like pastries

And they scream
The worst things in life come free to us
Cos we're just under the upperhand
And go mad for a couple of grams
And she don't want to go outside tonight
And in a pipe she flies to the Motherland
Or sells love to another man
It's too cold outside
For angels to fly
Angels to fly

Ripped gloves, raincoat
Tried to swim and stay afloat
Dry house, wet clothes
Loose change, bank notes
Weary-eyed, dry throat
Call girl, no phone

And they say
She's in the Class A Team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since 18
But lately her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting
Crumbling like pastries

And they scream
The worst things in life come free to us
Cos we're just under the upperhand
And go mad for a couple of grams
But she don't want to go outside tonight
And in a pipe she flies to the Motherland
Or sells love to another man
It's too cold outside
For angels to fly
An angel will die
Covered in white
Closed eye
And hoping for a better life
This time, we'll fade out tonight
Straight down the line
