Wind blew over the massive desert that covered the Gerudo Valley and the heat obscured the dunes that dotted the massive plain. In the center of the seemingly inhabitable land sat the Gerudo Town, where all of the desert women lived. There was only one reliable spring in the entire desert, so they had created their home around it. The walls of stone kept the women safe from men and the monsters that lurked in the desert, like the mighty Molduga and the vicious bokoblin. They rarely had any pastime due to the constant threats and the leader's sharp eye watched over her home from her throne, sword and shield by her side.
As she sat on her throne, a soldier ran to her feet. "My Chief! Ganondorf has run off again!"
"Again?" She said, disgruntled. "Get my sand seal, I'll track him down myself!"
Meanwhile, the young prince, now thirteen years old, was out surfing on his shield while being chased by a herd of Lizalfos. He smirked and pulled out his sword and looked back at the monsters. "Come at me!" He jumped off his shield and picked it up, smashing it into one of the lizards faces. He rammed his sword into another one and dodged quickly, knocking down the third monster. He pulled his sword out of the now dead lizalfos and fought off the other two, ending the battle quickly. He ripped off their talons and tails, placing them in his pouch before getting back to his sand seal, heading to his real destination.
He surfed across the sand past where the giant leviathan bones were buried in the desert. He tied his sand seal to one of the ribs and walked around, looking at the massive skeleton in awe. "So it's true..." He touched the bones gently and froze in place, spotting a massive flower in the middle of it. "What is that...?" He stepped forward and watched the fairies twirl around it blissfully. He stepped up on the mushrooms and went to touch the massive bud but a loud shout came from behind him.
"Ganondorf, whatever you do, do not touch that flower!" His mother shouted, jumping off her shield and running over to him and yanking him off the mushrooms. "I've told you so many times to stay in the village, what are you doing?"
Ganondorf looked at her in shock. "I-I heard a story about a giant skeleton in the desert, I wanted to go find it!"
"By yourself?" She snapped. "I can't believe you! You could have gotten lost and dehydrated or been killed by the Molduga! You never come out here alone!"
He grew frustrated. "Mother I'm not a baby! I know how to survive in the desert, I grew up in it! I know all the dangers inside and out!"
"You obviously don't." She said firmly. "We're heading back to the village. Now." She grabbed her sand seal and looks at him.
Ganondorf grumbled and grabbed his sand seal, attaching the shield to his feet and took off to the village without his mother. "Can't survive my ass..."
When the two had arrive back in the village, the chief grabbed her sons arm and dragged him back into the throne room. "We need to talk." She said stiffly. She sat him down and sat in her throne. "Ganondorf, you're becoming a man, and I can't stop you for much longer."
"You got that right..." He grumbled.
"Silence!" She shouted. She leaned back into her chair. "We will be returning to speak to the Hylians once again and I expect nothing but the best behavior."
Ganondorf's eyes lit up. "Will I be able to see Nadia?"
"I don't know who's going to be there." She said. "But I wouldn't be surprised." She took a deep breath. "But I must also tell you something else. When you are eighteen, you will become the new Chief, and you must take a wife."
"What?" Ganondorf looked at her shocked. "Who am I going to marry? I don't want to marry anyone here!"
"Whoever you marry is your choice." His mother said. "But I warn you to choose wisely. Your wife will have a great amount of power just like you when you become chief."
Ganondorf stared at her. "This wasn't a rule for you!"
"That's because I'm a woman." She said. "You are the first boy to be born in one hundred years, your rules are going to be different." She stood and looked out at the desert that could be seen behind her throne. "This land may not look like much, but it's sacred to the Gerudo, do you understand? We need a strong leader with a strong spouse. Find a woman who is intelligent and strong. I don't care if you love her, just find someone who can rule this land as well as the others."
Ganondorf looked away. "So, this is what I'm supposed to be?" He said. He slammed his metal covered foot on the stone ground. "No wonder Ganondorf was evil!" He shouted.
The Chief looked at him in shock. "Ganondorf, do not say such things!"
"You're treating me like I'm a monster!" He shouted. "I'm not allowed to ever leave my room, I can't go out and see the lands that are so special to you, and now you're telling me that power is more important than my own happiness! No wonder Ganon took over a hundred years ago, he was told power is more important than happiness!"
"That's not what I'm saying!" She shouted. "I'm saying that you need to find someone who can take care of our home by your side!"
"This isn't my home!" He shouted back. "How is this my home? I can't even see any of it without being dragged back to this god forsaken castle and locked away like Princess Zelda was!"
The Chief gasped. "How dare you speak ill of our land and the late Princess Zelda!"
"Am I wrong?" He snapped. He watched his mother stay silent and he grew more frustrated. "Am I wrong?" He repeated, venom dripping from his words.
She closed her eyes. "Leave the throne room, I don't want to see you."
"Fine." He said, stomping out. "I don't want to see you either!" He marched up to his room and sat on his bed, throwing his gold hairpiece across the room and symbolized that he was the prince. "I'm so sick of this!" He laid back, his red hair falling down to his shoulder blades and he closed his eyes. "I hope I get to see her again..." He closed his eyes and thought about the young Hylian girl. He hadn't got to see her for two years, yet he still thought about her all the time and what the Oracle had said. He let out a sigh. "Please be there when we visit..." There was a knock on the door. "Enter." He said, covering his eyes with his arm.
His mother stepped in, a sad look on her face. "Ganondorf, I was too harsh." She spotted the hairpiece on the floor and picked it up, gently placing it on his clothing chest. "I shouldn't have said such things to you, nor should I have been hiding you away from the world. It's no wonder that you don't know what this land holds, I haven't given you a chance to see."
Ganondorf sat up and looked at her. "Why, mother?" He said. "You told me my entire life how horrible Ganon was a hundred years ago and that I need to be different. But you treat me like I'm already a monster."
She nodded. "You're absolutely correct." She said. "I've treated you unfairly your entire life..." She sighed and sat on the bed next to him. "I want you to see Gerudo Valley. I'm going to send you on missions with the huntresses and even give you some alone time in the desert. All I ask is that you be back before the sun sets and leave after the sun rises."
Ganondorf nodded. "Yes mother, I understand."
She stroked his cheek. "You're my son, and I love you. Remember that, okay?" She stood and walked to the door and looked back at him. "We are leaving tomorrow for Hyrule, get some rest." She walked out, leaving him alone again.
Ganondorf let out a sight and took off his clothes, looking at all of the metal pieces he wore. "I'm so sick of this place.." He laid back down and closed his eyes, getting some sleep for tomorrow.
