Arianna's POV

Whilst I'm packing up so that I can hurry to the cafeteria, someone taps me on the shoulder lightly. I look behind me, seeing Jake, and I'm starting to hate the fact that we're in the same Physics class.

I bet he probably wants me to help him and his group with something, and then after they've used me, they'll never speak to me until they need help again.

Sometimes, being incredibly smart can be both a blessing and a curse. Right now, it's a curse.

"What's your problem, Jake?" I enquire harshly, shooting him with a sharp glare, and he gulps nervously. This takes me by surprise because I thought cool kids never get nervous. Clearly, I was wrong.

"I really don't know how to say this . . ." he begins.

I attempt to look into his eyes, but he stares at the ground and this irritates me like hell. So I become impatient. "Then you're wasting my time. Physics is long over."

Turning around to leave the science laboratory, I grab my handbag from my desk and fix my glasses, my bangles dangling from my right arm.

I'm just about to leave, when he places a firm grip on my wrist and I almost lose my balance. His action was downright stupid, if not juvenile.

"Arianna, wait," Jake pleads softly. The urgency in his voice causes me to turn around since I want to hear the end of his sentence. He lets go of my wrist and tugs at the sleeves of his white lab coat, finally meeting my curious gaze. "I like you."

"Holy crap." I gasp, shocked. The hottest guy in school likes me? The badass dude who never knew I existed for the past two years? Or at least I thought he didn't know.

I certainly didn't see that coming. I mean, I'm just a nerd, glasses and all. He's mister popular. There's no way we can be together. This has to be a prank; a cruel one at that. "I-I have to go." I stutter.

"No, please. Stay with me."

"Stay with you?" I repeat. My body suddenly breaks into a cold sweat and I start to shake. Because I want to be sure we're the only ones in the lab, I scan my eyes across the room and see that we're alone, a breath of relief escaping from my lips.

But then that means he can seduce me without anyone ever finding out. Shit. My breath hitches.

Where's Dylan when I need him?

"Listen, I know you're freaking out," Jake holds my hand, "but just give me a chance."

He plants a small kiss on the back of my hand. Goosebumps rise from my skin and when he runs a hand sexily through his black hair, I melt inside. "Shouldn't you be with your friends?" I ask.

"They're not important right now. You are." He takes off the lab coat, walking to a coat hanger so that he can place the coat on it.

This is the best chance for me to run away, but my feet are frozen to the spot. I just blink at him and breathe like an idiot.

What the hell?

You need to get out of here, Ari! And fast! my conscience screams at me.

"I should really get—"

"Am I scaring you?" Jake intervenes, taking a massive step forward, and I find myself taking a massive step back. I hold on to the strap of my handbag tightly. "Yes."

I don't like what's happening between us.

"I'm sorry, but, I have to say this." He starts edging closer to me, but I raise up my hand to stop him. His dreamy brown eyes start to make me feel bad. He's portraying the same face he had yesterday when he gave me that weird look.
