I don’t know how I feel about this urge I have to have Hayden around. A month ago I hated the guy. Although a month is a long time compared to a dark time in my life, literally seeing as I did not remember much at all from that night.
I was barely concentrating as I was diving home. The boys both had to stay for business, well Zane did. Mikey usually stays to listen in and give advice but I have a strong feeling that he may skip this meeting to spend a little more time with Ells.
She’ll be good for him, maybe bring him out of his shell a little bit.
I was left to drive home by myself. I should be more excited than I am, seeing as Mikey let me take the ’69. I think we might end up having quite a crowd back at the house tonight.
I grabbed my phone from the passenger’s seat and called Hayden.
“This is a nice surprise, isn’t it?’ I grinned now at his arrogance.
“You want to make good on your threat? Now’s your chance, come to my house.” I gave him the address and raced to get there before he did.
I got home in record time and made my way out to the jetty. I took my shoes and jeans off so that I was just in my tank top and tog bottoms. I let my feet hang over the edge and brush the surface of the water.
I was surprised when I felt someone sit down beside me.
“Is it weird that I sort of knew where you’re most likely to be?” Hayden asked as he slipped his feet into the water.
“It should be, but you understand me better than anyone, to be honest.”
We sat there in a comfortable silence; the only sound we could hear was the lapping of the water against the jetty.
I broke the silence, still without having looked at Hayden.
“I don’t really want anyone to be around right now, except you.” I stated
Hayden said nothing in reply he just slid a little closer and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. He placed a soft kiss on my forehead as I leant my head on his chest and we sat like that until we heard a car door slam and the very distinctive voice as Ellie made her way rather loudly through the house.
I scooted away from Hayden and stood to not only see Ellie and the boys but Jimmy and Tank also. There was a few other guys there as well that Zane and Mikey got on with from The Pit who Zane trusts enough to let them work at the garage, and obviously be around me.
I smiled and waved at them. Ellie would be ecstatic, these guys were pretty damn good looking, but I had a feeling she only has eyes for Mikey tonight.
I smiled indulgently at Zane while Mikey and Jimmy tried to look inconspicuous behind him. Zane really will do anything to push my parents over the edge. It’s almost as if he wants to get cut off, just to prove he doesn’t need my parents or their money. Not like he hasn’t been stashing cash since he was like twelve anyway.
Hayden hovered behind me, waiting patiently to be introduced to the newcomers. He may have had a relaxed grin on his face, but the protective hand that rested on my lower back told me he wasn’t as relaxed as he seemed.
I smiled; his protective nature gave me butterflies.
I turned towards Ellie “I don’t think Caleb would ever forgive us if he missed out on this, don’t you think?” Her eyes widened as she imagined his reaction when he found out that we had a party without him. She immediately walked off to call him; I could almost guarantee that he would bring Mia and Ollie too.
“Zane, Mikey, Jimmy, this is Hayden, a, uh, friend of mine.” I cringed. Shit. I had hesitated and my voice had wavered, yeah Rosie, that was really convincing, idiot.
