I woke to a ruckus. Yelling and crashing was all I could hear. I blinked a few times and I could see Zane about to punch Hayden.
I sat up straight away.
“Zane! What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” I jumped up and ran between the two of them.
“You explain yourself right now Zane Anthony Hawthorne or so help me I will kick you out of this house!”
Zane backed off fists clenched and breathing heavily.
“You disappeared, I came to check on you and he was asleep next to you while you were in your bikini, why do you think I’m angry!” Zane yelled at me
Hayden was standing behind me with an apologetic look on his face, “I-”
I cut Hayden off with a death glare.
“Zane, nothing has happened okay, calm down.” I said calmly my hands out in front of me trying to calm him down.
“I trust him okay; he looks after me almost as much as you do okay.” I stood up straight out of my defensive stance.
“It’s okay”
“No. No Rosie, everything is not ‘okay’. You know why, because the last guy you trusted fucked you over and fucked you up and he will do the exact same thing, I promise you!” Zane was still yelling.
My heart sank, a tear leaked from my eye.
“Zane, I need you to leave.” I said quietly
“What?”
“I need you to leave, now. Take everyone else with you. No one is to be here in ten minutes or I swear to God I will never talk to you again. Understand?”
His shoulders slumped, defeat written all over his body, he looked broken. He went to leave the room, when he reached the door he took one look at me with haunted eyes. “Rosie-”
“Leave, Zane.”
He turned and left without another word. I wen t to my wardrobe and grabbed a pair of shorts and a hoodie.
Hayden was silent the whole time; it wasn’t until I was dressed that he came and wrapped his arms around me. That was when I broke. I covered my face with my hands and buried my face in his shoulder and let the tears run freely. I had never fought with Zane before, never. I couldn’t bear it. Hayden just held me and calmed me to a point where I was breathing normally again.
He held my chin, wiped the tears from my face as he place his lips softly on my forehead.
“Shh, don’t cry Rosa. It will be okay I promise.” He whispered
He picked me up again and carried to my bed, he handed me my teddy bear from the chair in the corner of my room, and it was the one Zane had given me when I was five. I held it tight and hid my face in it like a child. Hayden turned my TV to some channel and handed me the remote.
He kissed my forehead yet again. “Give me ten minutes, beautiful. I’ll be back soon.” I nodded and fixed my eyes on whatever was playing.
I let my mind drift while I waited.
It seemed like an hour, but Hayden was back and he was hiding something. I was curious.
“Hayden, what do you have?” I asked softly
He pulled two plastic bags out from behind his back.
“I brought goodies.”
I almost let myself smile.
