"C'mon, Spock, it's snowing!" I yelled, "Come outside!"
"Jim, it is below the freezing point of water outside. I do not --"
"It'll be fun! You've gotta come with me!" I cut in.
I could hear him sigh from downstairs. "I will come with you."
"Yes!" I sprinted outside, leaving Spock to walk down the steps with his hands in his pockets, without a coat.
"What're you doing without a coat on? It's too cold to go out without one," my mother called. Right, Vulcans don't get snow, I thought. That's no fun.
He came back outside, looking much more comfortable. "I still do not understand our purpose of being here."
"Spock, we're seven years old. We're out here to play!" I dropped in the snow and dragged my arms and legs through it, creating a snow angel.
"What are you doing?" he asked me, one eyebrow raised.
"I'm making a snow angel," I giggled.
"A 'snow angel'?"
"It's my favorite thing to do in the snow!" I stood up. "That's the dress, and the wings, and the --"
"Perhaps we could do something else?"
I rubbed my chin, thinking hard. "We could have a snowball fight!"
He looked concerned. "A fight, Jim?"
"No, we're just throwing snow at each other. Like this!" I took some snow, formed it into a ball-like shape, and hit Spock's shoulder with it. "You try!"
He threw his snowball at my chest, but I dodged out of the way.
"It takes a lot of practice to aim," I shrugged.
We fought for a long time, and Spock's aim had gotten much better. "Wow, you're good at this!" I panted.
"Thank you," he replied.
"Boys," my mother called, "It's getting late, come inside. I made hot chocolate!"
"Jim," Spock whispered, "There is a compound in chocolate that can...intoxicate a Vulcan."
"So...?"
"In human terms, I will become 'drunk'."
"Oh, no. I'll tell Mom." We came inside. "You sit down, I'll take care of it."
I walked into the kitchen. "Mom? I need to tell you something."
"Go ahead," she beamed.
"Um...chocolate...can make a Vulcan drunk," I awkwardly admitted.
"Oh, dear," she chuckled, "I'll just make him a warm milk, then."
"Thanks, Mom." I took our drinks and came back to where Spock had sat down. "It's okay, Mom has it under control." I handed him the milk.
"Thank you."
"We should do this again sometime. That was fun," I told him.
"It was quite interesting to see snow in person. I will return tomorrow."
"Sounds good." I smiled and rested my head on his shoulder. "You're the best friend I ever had."
"Jim, I have been, and always shall be, your friend."
I smiled at that.
