CHAPTER 22

Even though it was the middle of the summer, mother nature decided to add a twist on this Monday, by adding freezing weather. Rosalynn was dressed in a light brown cable knit sweater with khaki pants and brown boots. To be extra cozy in the cold weather outside, she added in a beanie and a scarf.

She longingly looked at the warmly sleeping Nikolaii. He looked cozy. She just wanted to drag herself back to bed. After closing the dorm door, Rosalynn whined in protest as she dragged herself to her first and last class of the day: Cardiology. Thank god for that.

As expected, there was only few others along with her. Mr. Adams who taught cardiology was handsome as well as smart. In the first few weeks of the semester, many students, mostly females, add his class to admire him and use him as eyes candy, but drops the class after realizing how hard it actually was.

"Good morning class. I know the weather outside is not great, but I hope you pay attention to this documentary I'll be playing. Who knows if there might be a pop quiz will be in the end or not. Hint, Hint." Hayden Adams said as he popped the tape into the VCR and dimmed the lights.

Few minutes into the documentary, the door opened and a person walked in. Presumably, a guy from the muscled built of his silhouette. Rosalynn watched as he gave something to Mr. Adams and walked up the aisle to the spot where she sat. He passed the remaining seats and sat right next to her. She was surprised his boldness. Or was it because of the darkness, he couldn't see I'm sitting here?

Her attention was focused on the stranger who sat next to her. The man smelt of sunny days, caramel with a hint of vanilla. Why was it so familiar? She found herself instinctively leaning more towards him.

"Alright, class. Pop-quiz time." The professor said in a sing-song voice as he turned the lights on once again. The man beside her scoffed slightly as he scrambled through his red black checkers patterned bag to bring out some notebook paper and a pen. Rosalynn dared not look at his face. She had that gut eating feeling.

"Okay, class. You have exactly til the end of the class to finish. Begin." Mr. Adams said as he passed out the quiz paper.

Rosalynn stared at the question paper in front of her. What is the Greek name for cardiology? She remembered  a part of the name but the rest was a blank.

"It's καρδίᾱ meaning 'heart' and -λογία meaning 'study'." The melodic voice of the stranger next to Rosalynn whispered, making her heart beat rapid, and her breathing to come out hoarsely.

As if he spotted the sudden reaction he had caused in her, he chuckled softly. Rosalynn swiftly controlled her wild emotions as she focused on the test paper. What is the name of the physiologist who built the first practical ECG and won the 1924 Nobel prize in medicine? Rosalynn sighed in defeat as she stared holes into the paper, hoping it will disintegrate in front of her.

His masculine quick hands suddenly grabbed the paper from her to switch with his. She confusedly stared at his as he resorted to fill out hers. What just happened? The stranger gave her paper back after a minute, taking his paper back.

Rosalynn skimmed the paper to find her once blank paper filled in descriptively and beautifully written. He had beautiful handwriting. Her mother once said that if a man had beautiful handwriting, he was very skillful with his hands. Rosalynn blushed at the thought. When she returned to reality from her imagination and turned to thank the man for his abundant amount of help, he was already walking toward the door after handing his paper to Mr. Adams.
