Chapter 10: Oh Brother!

Though it wasn’t easy for me to admit, I needed help. As long as the Dark Legion had the ‘turning things to gold’ card up their sleeves, there was very little I could do against them. This was something I couldn’t handle alone. I needed assistance. And not just any assistance, magical assistance.
I may be pretty powerful, but I’m a total novice when it comes to magic. Pretty much the only source of magical power I have is the fantasy stone. Sure it let’s me bend and defy reality, but like I said before, I usually keep it small to conserve power and energy. Also doing really big things takes concentration and focus, which aren’t exactly my strong points. My belt helps in the magic department too. Once in a blue moon, it’ll give me a magical weapon, but that’s only when I really need it. Other than that I’m not the most versatile magic user.
To be honest, I don’t even really like magic that much, mostly because it’s one of the few things that I’m particularly vulnerable to. Still, a great hero is one who knows his weaknesses as well as his strengths. I knew exactly who could help me out with this problem. I may not be great with magic, but I know some guys who were the best at it…well, they’re good enough at least. I flew through the skies of Fury with great speed. There wasn’t a moment to lose. My destination: Mystic Isle.
Mystic Isle is a place on Fury where all kinds of magicians live. They live their in relative peace, exchange spells and potion recipes, teach magic schools, you know magician stuff. All kinds of different magic users live on Mystic Isle. There were wizards, witches, sorcerers, warlocks, trolls, fairies, there were even those super lame magicians that you only see at birthday parties. All the magicians who reside on Mystic Isle were special and skilled, but there were two who stood out more than the others, Mighty and Diablo: the Mystic Brothers.
The Mystic Brothers are twin magicians who reside in a magical tower on the edge of Mystic Isle. They’re pretty friendly, just kind of reclusive. They don’t like to hang out with other magicians a lot. They just feel like they stand out too much. I could relate to that. Still, they weren’t lonely. After all, they had each other (not that they got along very well). Although they were twins the Mystic Brothers couldn’t be more different.
There was Mighty Mystic: the wizard. He’s pretty good with dark magic. He can summon and control shadows and different monsters. He’s also pretty good all kinds of offensive attack spells and incantations. He has purple hair and wears a dark purple outfit with a crescent moon on the chest. He also wears a cloak and one of those cliché cone-shaped wizard hats (people always tell him it looks dumb but he doesn’t care). Despite his look and his magic, he’s actually not very dark or gloomy. Honestly, he’s a pretty cheerful guy, although not very bright.
There was also Diablo Mystic: the alchemist. Alchemy is like magic with science. He’s a master of the elements. He uses fire, water, earth, and wind to do all kinds of different spells. He also can create certain special spells using different magical ingredients. He has orange hair and wears a colorful orange-red robe with a hood and a sun symbol on his chest. Diablo is the more sensible of the brothers, but still a little dense. Everyone assumes that, because he uses alchemy and is relatively limited to the power of the elements, he is the weaker of the two Mystic Brothers, but actually they are evenly matched in terms of strength (though neither one would ever admit that to the other).
Now if you ever met the Mystic Brothers, you would probably just write them of as dim, yet lovable goofballs, and you’d be right. But they’re actually much more than that. Mighty and Diablo’s father was the former ruler of Mystic Isle and the lord of all mages. He was one of the most powerful magicians in the world. He protected the residents of Mystic Isle and punished those who used magic for evil. Since he passed away, his title was supposed to be passed down to his descendant, more specifically, the first born child. Unfortunately, with the passing of their parents also went the knowledge of which of the twins was born first. This meant that they would have to become the lords of mages and rule Mystic Isle together.
The Mystic Brothers argue more often than not, but they always pull together when it really matters. They’re still teenagers so they aren’t ready to rule Mystic Isle yet. They have to become strong and wise so that they can be the rulers they need to be. That’s why they joined my team and became superheroes. They like using their magic to make a difference in the world and fighting villains helps them become stronger and improve their skills. Regardless of their goofy personalities, they’re the strongest magicians I know. That’s why they were the perfect ones to help me with this problem. Plus…I don’t actually know any other magicians.
I made my way to Spellbound Tower. It’s a small, stone castle-like tower on the edge of Mystic Isle where the Mystic Brothers live. I walked up to the wooden door and held the golden door knocker. Just as I was about to knock…
                     KABOOOOM!
A giant explosion came from inside the tower.
“Damnit Mighty!” I heard Diablo’s voice say from inside. “I said don’t add the eye of newt! You’ve ruined the spell!”
“Hey don’t blame me!” I heard Mighty say. “This dumb spell was your idea. What’s it supposed to do anyway?”
“Well I guess we’ll never know now will we?” Diablo snapped. I then heard another crash.
“Oww! Hey!” Mighty yelled. “You’ll pay for that!” I then heard what sounded like a dog and a cat fighting in an alley. Crashing and bumping and even the sounds of magic spells being used. I let out a sigh. It seemed I had come at a bad time. Still, I needed their help so I had to do what I had to do. I knocked on the door and as soon as I did, the sounds of fighting stopped. All was quiet for a moment. Then the door opened revealing my two friends battered and beaten with crooked smiles on their faces.
    “Hey Brent!” Mighty said cheerfully.
    “What’s up?!” Diablo added.
“Uhhh…hey guys,” I said nonchalantly. “Can I come in? I need to talk to you guys about something.” Next thing I knew I was inside of Spellbound Tower. It may look pretty small from the outside, but on the inside it was huge. It’s full of some of the most rare and powerful magical items and artifacts in the world. It also has bookshelves filled to capacity with all kinds of magical spell books (not that I’ve ever seen either of the Mystic Brothers actually read any of them). Anyway, I sat down at their table and told them the whole story of what happened on Amazonia.
“Whoa,” Diablo said after hearing my tale.
    “I know,” I said. “It’s pretty crazy.”
“I’ll say,” Mighty replied. “I can’t believe you’re letting Misty move in with you! Nice!”
“Is that seriously the part of the story you’re focusing on?!” I said annoyed.
“Well it is pretty cool,” said Diablo. “You’re gonna be living in an awesome castle with the hottest babe on Fury! Way to go, Bro!”
“Congratulations buddy!” Mighty added while giving me a friendly slap on the back.
“Look,” I said. “It’s not gonna be anything weird. We going to keep things platonic and professional.”
“Really?” Mighty asked. “Misty agreed to that?”
“Yeah…well…not exactly in those words but…we came to a nonverbal understanding.” The twins looked at each other for a moment, and then back to me. “Look, the point is that Misty’s been captured and I need help saving her. Diablo, are there any spells that could help?”
“Sure,” Diablo said confidently. “Turning things to gold and back is basic alchemy. Just leave it to me, I can handle it.”
“Really? Awesome!” I said triumphantly. “Now all we gotta do is get to the Dark Lands and save Misty! But I doubt the Dork Legion would be dumb enough to take Misty back to their normal hideout. They’d probably take her somewhere else. Somewhere secret. But how could I find it?”
“I got this!” Mighty said suddenly. He then reached under the table and pulled out a crystal ball. He placed it on the table and began to wave his hands over it and chanted. “Magic crystal hear my plea, show my brother, Brent, and me, where to find our captured friend, so we may bring this plot to an end.”
“Is the rhyming really necessary?” I asked.
“No, it’s just for effect,” Mighty replied. Suddenly an image began to appear inside the crystal ball. It showed a part of the Dark Lands, the territory of Wrecker and the Dark Legion. Then it revealed a strange and very sinister looking castle. The Dark Legion usually resides in Wrecker’s castle. But this fortress was different. It was smaller, but it still looked well protected and guarded. “Where’s that?” Mighty said.
“I don’t know,” I said seriously. “But it’s where Misty is so it’s where we’re going. C’mon Diablo!”
“Right!” Diablo said as he got up and began to follow me out the door.
“Hold up,” Mighty said. “I wanna come too!”
“Sorry bro,” Diablo said snidely. “Since you can’t help change Misty back, I don’t think you’ll be very useful. Why don’t you stay here and clean things up.”
    “Why you…” Mighty said angrily.
“Actually, maybe Mighty should come along,” I said. “After everything that’s happened I don’t wanna take any chances. I’ll need all the help I can get.”
“Cool, I’m in!” Mighty said as he got up and started pumping his fists.
    “Swell,” Diablo said apathetically.
“Alright, let’s move” I said. With haste I ran outside and began to fly into the sky. Mighty and Diablo followed. Diablo conjured up a white cloud and Diablo conjured up a black one. Simultaneously they jumped on their clouds and began to ride them, flying after me. Hold on Misty. I thought. We’re on our way!
