Chapter 7: Wrecker's Lament

“Hello Cosmos,” Wrecker said through the mirror in a sinister voice. “I’ve been waiting for you to come down from that little island of yours for days. You should really get out more.”
“Yeah, well you’re one to talk!” I said. “You’re so lazy, you couldn’t even find the time to come here yourself!” Wrecker glared at me through the mirror and I glared right back. That’s always how it starts with us. We exchange some banter and insults, we glare for a bit, then we duke it out. Such is the case with most arch enemies. Still, as much as Wrecker and I hate each other, we each held some sort of meaning to the other.
Wrecker was the first villain I ever defeated. Remember back when I was talking about the villain who stole the fantasy stone and attacked Amazonia? That was Wrecker. He wanted to use the stone’s powers to make himself ruler of all of Fury. But you can bet that he didn’t count on being stopped by a 10 year old. I defeated him, absorbed the fantasy stone, earned my mark of power, and officially became a hero. That’s how our legendary rivalry began. Ever since that day he hated me with a passion and I wasn’t too fond of him either. We’ve fought each other ever since.
Remember when I said that you wouldn’t be able to tell that I’m a superhero just by looking at me? Well one look at Wrecker and you’d definitely be able to tell that he’s a villain. He has light purple skin, luscious black hair, black horns that stick out of his head, black armor that covers his shoulders and the top part of his chest, and a long, black cape…because why not? He even has a pencil thin mustache and a villainous beard. What is it with bad guys and beards, seriously? He also has a cybernetic eye. That’s kind of a sore spot for him because he used to prize his handsome looks as well as his power, until he got severely burned in the face. I can neither confirm nor deny my involvement in that.
Now, if you asked me (or anyone else) what exactly Wrecker is, you wouldn’t really get a definite answer. Wrecker’s origins are a complete mystery. Is he an alien? A mutant? A demon? A sorcerer? Nobody knew for sure, not even his fellow members of the Dark Legion. The only thing that everybody knew about Wrecker is that he was evil. Some people say that Wrecker was born bad (kind of like a Destructoid). I don’t know if that’s true, but I wouldn’t write it off as an impossibility.
Wrecker only cares about two things: himself and power. He has a ridiculous amount of magical strength and weapons. He’s always hunting for some magical item or weapon that can make him stronger or help in his quest to conquer the planet. As he went on with this endeavor, he did encounter quite a few heroes who tried to stop him. Still, they were nothing to him. He disposed of them with a mere gesture. No hero had ever been able to defeat him…until I came along.
That’s why Wrecker hates me so much. I’m the only person who’s ever been able to beat him, and I’ve been doing it for six years. I guess he considers me to be some kind of blemish on his record or something. As he strives to conquer Fury, he takes every opportunity he can to try to humiliate, demoralize, crush, and utterly defeat me physically, mentally, and emotionally. However, this is about more than just a grudge.
I’m the last living member of the Cosmos family. If Wrecker gets rid of me, that’s it. No more Cosmoses to protect Fury. Our family would be nothing but a memory and Fury would be at the mercy of Wrecker and all kinds of other villains. Plus, if Wrecker defeats a Cosmos, he will gain the fear and respect that he’s always desired. Furyians would lose hope and bow to his whim. Conquering the planet would be an absolute breeze. But I’m still around so I’m not gonna let that happen any time soon.
That’s how Wrecker and I play significant roles in each other’s lives. Wrecker fights me so that he can defeat me and prove himself the most powerful and evil force on all of Fury, thus making it easier to conquer. Meanwhile, I fight Wrecker because keeping his evil at bay is one of the few things that actually makes me feel like a hero and it gives me hope that someday people will accept the way I am and stop treating me like a troublemaking outcast because of my Destructoid half and my mother’s reputation. You could say that, in our own twisted ways, Wrecker and I actually depend on each other. I mean, I wouldn’t say that, but you could.
“What do you want Wrecker?” Misty said annoyed. “You know that you’re not allowed on Amazonia.” What Misty said was true. After Wrecker’s original attack on Amazonia, I used the power of the fantasy stone to create a barrier that prevented him from even coming near the island again. That’s why he had to appear on the magic mirror
“Right you are my dear,” Wrecker said. “That’s exactly why I’ve sent my ‘messengers’ in my place.”
“Oh that’s right!” I said. “The barrier only keeps Wrecker away, not the rest of the Dark Legion. I’m gonna have to fix that later.”
“Whatever,” Misty said. “So what do you want?”
“My quarrel is with Cosmos, not you my pretty princess.” Wrecker said with a smile. Misty scowled. She doesn’t like men much, but she absolutely despises evil men.
“So what’s your beef this time Wrecker?” I asked. Wrecker sat back in his throne and put a serious look on his face.
“Brent Cosmos,” he said in a commanding tone. “You have been a pain in my neck and a thorn in my side for far too long.”
“Hey it’s been my pleasure!” I replied with a devious smirk. Misty giggled. Wrecker growled with anger.
“For years you have stunted and stalled my plans for world domination at every turn. You have taken so much from me in the time we’ve known each other and I’ve decided it’s time to retaliate.”
“Taken so much?” I said confused. “The only things I’ve ever taken from you are the things you’ve stolen from others. And I only do that to give them back to their rightful owners…usually.”
“Oh no,” said Wrecker. “You’ve robbed me of much more than that. You’ve robbed me of my destiny of ruling Fury, my dignity, and worst of all my good looks!” He then touched his cybernetic eye with his hand.
“Seriously!?” I said. “Are you still on about that whole, me burning you in the face thing? Dude, it was six years ago, I was 10, it was an accident! You really need to learn to let things go. I mean look at me. I’ve totally gotten over the fact that you CUT OFF MY ARMS AND LEGS!”
“The way you said that makes it seem like you’re not over it,” said Misty.
    “WELL I AM!” I shouted.
“Regardless,” Wrecker continued. “I’ve decided that it’s time to settle the score with you once and for all. Now normally, I would just directly challenge you in a battle but I’ve realized that’s not the way to go. Despite how hard I’ve tried to humiliate and get to you, I’ve never found a way to do it that didn’t come back to bite me. Also, when you and I come to blows you usually-,”
    “Always,” I interrupted.
“USUALLY,” Wrecker continued annoyed. “Come out on top. But I’ve found a much more simpler way to defeat you.”
“Oh yeah?” I said. “And what’s that?”
“You will surrender to me!” Wrecker said confidently. I stood there silently for a minute, and then I busted out laughing my maniacal Destructoid laugh.
“I always knew you were crazy Wrecker,” I said while still chuckling. “But you’re totally psycho if you think I’m just going to surrender to you!”
“Oh I think you will,” Wrecker said. “For you see, I have a plan!”
“What plan?” I asked. Wrecker then grinned evilly and snapped his fingers. Green lightning then started to surround Ballista’s hands. Primech’s robotic arm turned into a blaster, he pointed it outward and began to charge it up. Carnage pulled out mace and a war hammer and Wrath pulled out some blasters. Slither than let out a huge hiss, showing his poisonous, venom-filled fangs. And Chimera’s lion head roared and his bull head exhaled from its nose. Its leg scratched the ground and it crouched as if it was getting ready to pounce. They all took an intimidating stance. They were getting ready to attack!
“Brent Cosmos!” Wrecker yelled. “You will surrender to me, or else Amazonia will be destroyed!”
    “I see,” I said. “Well…that’s a pretty good plan.”
