Misty and I stood triumphantly over the body of our defeated foe. We had been through a lot today, but now it was finally over.
“Giving me time to free myself by fighting Wrecker, and weakening him so I could come in for the finishing blow.” Misty explained.
“Yep,” I said confidently. “I made my anger work for me after all. I got mad, went crazy, improvised, and made a plan. Pretty good, right?”
“Very impressive,” Misty replied with a smile. “You learned from your mistakes, turned your weakness into a strength, and saved the day your way. It was very…heroic.” I smiled.
“Aw shucks,” I said. “Thanks. But now there’s just one more thing to do.” I reached into my belt and pulled out a strange looking gun. I pointed it down at Wrecker. Misty gasped in shock.
“Brent, NO! Wait!” she shouted. I then pulled the trigger and a glowing orange ball shot out. It stretched itself around Wrecker, wrapping his entire body in a glowing orange energy rope.
“What?” I said confused.
“You…you,” Misty stammered.
“I was just capturing Wrecker so that the Enforcers could come and take him to prison,” I explained. “What’d you think I was gonna do?”
“Umm…nothing,” Misty replied.
“Ughh...,” we heard someone moan. It was Wrecker. Surprisingly he still had the strength to speak. “Why do you do this to yourself Cosmos?” he asked weakly. “Don’t you get it? No matter how many times you defeat me, you will always be an outsider. Hero or not, the world will never accept you or what you are!” My eyes turned red and I hissed at him a little because deep down, I thought what he was right. Misty then held my hand. As I turned my head and looked at her beautiful smiling face, my eyes went back to normal. I then pressed a button on the gun I used to trap Wrecker. The rope he was wrapped in then shocked him with a surge of electrifying energy, knocking him out again.
“Everyone in the world may not accept me or believe in me,” I said. I then turned to Misty. “But I’ve got lots of friends who do. And for now…maybe that’s enough.” Misty smiled and then leaned in and kissed me on the lips. I blushed and pushed her away quickly. “Hey, Hey, Hey! What happened to restraining yourself?”
“I said I might,” Misty replied with a flirtatious smile. “I didn’t say I would.”
“Aw c’mon,” I said. “That’s not fair!”
“Too bad!” Misty said. I hissed.
“You’re lucky I’m so wiped out from fighting Wrecker,” I said grumpily. “Or else I’d-,” Before I could finish my threat, Misty went back to kissing me. Normally I don’t really like it when Misty kisses me or does anything romantic. It’s not that I don’t like Misty or that I think she’s unattractive or anything. It’s just that male Destructoids aren’t really big on displays of affection. Nevertheless, every once in a while I actually like Misty’s advances towards me. As she kissed me passionately, I began to feel calm and secure and happy. I may not get a lot of appreciation for my heroics, but sometimes I think that Misty’s appreciation is more than enough. As Misty and I continued our touching moment, we began to hear snickering.
“Well, it looks like you two are having fun,” we heard a taunting familiar voice say. I then pulled away from Misty and we turned to see Adojo and the rest of the Super Fighters watching us.
“Awww! You two are so perfect together!” Ruby said cheerfully.
“Whoa! You’re the man B!” said Mighty.
“Way to go Cos,” said Diablo.
“Guys!” I said blushing with embarrassment. “I was just…we were just…”
“Yeah I think we know what you were doing,” said Fightbot. The entire team laughed, including Misty. I growled.
“What’re you jerks even doing here!” I said annoyed.
“We’re just here to deliver a package,” said Fang.
“A package?” I said confused. Ruby then used her psychic powers to levitate something over. It was the Dark Legion. They were all unconscious and wrapped up together in a magical rope made of Adojo’s lethal black paint.
“One team of super villains, airmail!” Fang said confidently.
“Alright!” I said. “Awesome work guys! And to think Ballista said that you were nothing without me.”
“Yeah, well she won’t be saying anything for a while!” Adojo said as she pointed to the black paint over Ballista’s mouth and giggled.
“Still,” Fightbot said. “We couldn’t have beaten the Dark Legion if you hadn’t gotten rid of Wrecker.”
“Yeah, man,” Mighty said. “That was a wicked plan you came up with!”
“And thanks for saving us,” Ruby said.
“Yeah, and listen Brent,” Adojo said. “About before…well I definitely said more than I should’ve. I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine Adojo,” I said. “You were right. If I keep letting my anger get me and others into trouble, I’ll never be a great hero. I just need to learn to control my anger and let it out when I really need to.” I pointed down at Wrecker. “Your words may have been harsh, but they were still true. And though I really hate to admit it…I needed to hear them.” Adojo smiled.
“So we’re cool?” She asked. I looked at her for a moment, then punched her hard in the stomach.
“Yeah, we’re cool!” I said as Adojo grabbed her stomach doubled over in pain.
“Okay, I deserved that,” Adojo groaned.
“So what now?” Diablo asked.
“Now we wait for the Enforcers,” I replied. As we waited patiently, I went over and destroyed the stadium the Dark Legion had built for the wedding. Misty called Amazonia to let her mother know that she was okay.
“So how’s your mom?” I asked.
“She’s fine,” Misty replied. “She said she knew you’d save me.” I smiled. “She also said they’re done cleaning things up after your little episode.”
“Oh right…that,” I said nervously. “Look I was just-,”
“It’s alright Brent,” Misty said. “Like I said before, I think it’s sweet how you get so angry over me.” I blushed. “However, mother thinks it would be best if you didn’t visit the island for a while.”
“Heh, heh, yeah” I said. Just then, a humungous black ship appeared in the sky. It had wings that seemed to go on for miles. This was the warship of the Enforcers. Suddenly some men in armor bean to fly down from the ship with jetpacks. They were led by none other than Commander Stryker. As he landed, he and I stared at each other.
“Cosmos,” Stryker said.
“Stryker,” I replied. Stryker looked over to see the captured super villains.
“I see that you and your team have taken care of the Dark Legion,” he said.
“I said we would didn’t I?” I said smugly.
“I also received reports that all of the innocent people who were captured were returned home safely…nice work.”
“Oh, uh…thanks!” I said pleasantly surprised.
“I won’t deny that you did well today Cosmos,” Stryker said. “But that still doesn’t change the fact that you’re nothing like your father.”
“Ughh…I know!” I said annoyed.
“However, after seeing what you’ve accomplished today…maybe your way of doing things deserves more credit that I thought.”
“Really!” I said. “So does that mean you’ll get off my back, start trusting me more, and start giving me more respect!”
“Don't push it punk,” Stryker said. I grunted.
“Take them away!” Stryker said as he pointed to the Dark Legion. His soldiers then flew over and blasted them with a tractor beam that came out of their wrists. They then carried them up to their ship. “These villains have just earned themselves a lengthy stay in the prison mountains.”
“Hey, you forgot one,” I said as I pointed at Wrecker.
“Oh yes, I’ll take care of him,” Stryker said. He then walked over to Wrecker and right as he was about to capture him and take him in, Wrecker’s eyes popped open. He then broke free of my energy rope like it was nothing but string. The things that make Wrecker such a threat are: he’s strong, he’s powerful, he’s intelligent, he’s cunning, he’s pure evil, and he’s a notoriously fast healer.
Wrecker blasted Stryker with a red energy beam, sending him flying backwards until he landed on his back with a thud. Wrecker then sped over to Stryker and pulled out his dark sword (which can pierce anything, even golden armor). Just as he was about to bring it down on Stryker, a blue ball of energy hit Wrecker and knocked him back.
Wrecker got up quickly and looked around to see who attacked him. He looked over to see me, holding a smoking ion pistol in my hand and glaring intensely. Wrecker got ready to attack me, but all my friends took battle stances and got ready to fight. Wrecker may be arrogant, but even he’s not cocky enough to think that he could take on me and the rest of the Super Fighters without his team to back him up. He glared at me.
“Next time boy!” he said. Then with a flash, he was gone. I let out a sigh and put my gun away. My friends all relaxed.
“Looks like Wrecker got away again,” said Ruby.
“And when he comes back, he’ll probably be stronger,” Fightbot added.
“That’s fine,” I said calmly. “Because so will we!” My friends all smiled.
“Cosmos!” I heard a voice say. I turned around to see Stryker standing there with a serious look on his face. He then extended his hand. “Thank you.” I looked at Stryker’s hand with total astonishment. I then shook it with a smile.
“No problem,” I replied.
“It seems like we’ll have to get Wrecker another time,” Stryker said. “Until then…” He stared at me for a moment. “Keep up the…good work.” I stared blankly with amazement.
“Will do,” I said. Stryker then saluted me and flew up to his ship. With a radiant flash the war ship warped away.
“Well how about that,” Misty said with a smile.
“That was pretty big of you Brent,” said Ruby.
“After all the crap Stryker’s given you over the years, you still saved his life,” Fightbot added.
“Now that was classy,” Fang said.
“Total respect man,” said Mighty with a thumbs up.
“Word,” Diablo added.
“Yeah, nice going Super Freak,” Adojo said.
“Thanks guys!” I said happily. I may doubt whether I’m cut out for this superhero thing every now and then, but it doesn’t take much to remind me of what its really all about: helping others and making a difference. “Well it looks like once again the day has been saved thanks to Brent Cosmos: Great and All-Powerful Superhero and the almighty Super Fighters!”
“Well he’s getting better,” said Ruby.
“Yeah, he actually mentioned us this time,” said Fightbot.
“Don’t forget you saved me too,” said Misty.
“Of course I did!” I replied. “After all, that’s what heroes...and friends, are for.” Misty smiled and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I blushed.
“Awww, aren’t you two cute!” Adojo teased.
“Shut up,” I grunted. My friends all shared a laugh. “Alright, our enemies have been defeated and I’m sick of all your faces. Beat it!” Fightbot activated his rocket feet Ruby began to levitate.
“See you guys,” Ruby said cheerfully as she waved.
“Later,” Fightbot said as they both flew off. Adojo then hopped onto her paintbrush and Fang got on behind her.
“Call us if you need anything!” Fang said.
“See ya ‘round!” Adojo said. They both flew off on the brush, leaving a rainbow trail behind them.
“Yo, B,” Mighty said. “You mind if we take the blimp home?”
“Fine,” I said. “But fill it up before you give it back!”
“Thanks Cos!” Diablo said. “Peace!” The Mystic Brothers then flew up to the blimp and floated off.
“Well,” I said with a stretch and a yawn. “Time to get home!”
“Alright!” Misty said. “Let’s get going roomie!”
“What? Oh right,” With everything that happened, I had pretty much forgotten that Misty lives with me now. “Zipper!” I then snapped my fingers and a giant zipper appeared in front of us. As it unzipped it revealed to be an instant doorway to Cosmos Castle. “Let’s go!”
“Right,” Misty said. “But just one more thing first.”
“What?” I said. Misty then gave me another kiss on the lips. I blushed in embarrassment and started freaking out. “Hey! I already saved you! What was that for!?” Misty let out her seductive laugh that always both scares and annoys me every time I hear it.
“That was the reward you owed me for saving you from Ballista’s web,” Misty said with an alluring smile. “You didn’t think I forgot did you?” I hissed. “Now let’s go home.” Misty then walked through the zipper portal, leaving me standing alone in the Dark Lands with a grumpy scowl.”
“Great,” I ranted to myself. “Now that she lives with me, that means it’s going to be like this all the time.” I sighed. “Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea.”
“Brent,” Misty said as she stuck her head back through the zipper portal. “What are you waiting for? Come on! Let’s go eat pizza and watch cartoons.” My face instantly perked up when I heard that.
“On second thought,” I said with a smile. “This might just work out after all!” I then followed Misty through the zipper. As I entered the portal, it zipped closed and disappeared. Me, Misty, and the rest of our friends went to enjoy the luxury of our normal lives…until our next great adventure.
