The night was relatively short and eventless. Despite not being accustomed to this building and the circumstances, I was able to get some sleep. Even being a royal servant is better than being just a mere peasant. Well, in fact, a peasant isn't called mongrel on a daily basis by their master... Oh well, the sacrifice.
I woke up at one point and realized that I can't sleep anymore no matter how much I try to. This was especially annoying because it was still night or in the best case, close to dawn. I took this for granted because looking outsise made me face the intense obscurity and the peacefully sleeping city of Uruk. It was so oddly silent it almost felt outlandish. Leastwise the absence of screams and people in agony gave me confidence, Gilgamesh was certainly not out and on a killing spree at the moment. He seemed like the type of person who would definitely enjoy these sound effects embroidering the visual experience.
I don't know why but if he committed actions like these I would feel a bit responsible also, for not preventing them from happening. Anyway, I can't just put a collar on him and tie him to a wall or something, can I?Although my room was gorgeous compared to my old living conditions, I still felt bored after a couple of minutes. It wouldn't be the best idea to start looking for Gilgamesh, if he is asleep and I wake him up, the consequences are clear. On a similar note, does he even sleep at all? I mean, he is a god, demigod, something godlike, does he even need sleep? Maybe his mongrel part does. Now is not the perfect time to investigate. However, I can explore the palace if I can walk quietly enough. Even that would be better than just sitting and waiting for the time to pass. For a second I even forgot the possibility of getting lost. The door creaked open slowly and I stepped on the corridor.

It didn't take me long to see, this place was an endless labyrinth. After I had enough of exploring, I wanted to get back to my room, just in case the king feels like visiting me in the morning. Light was already shining through the windows, giving life to all the statues, paintings and otherwise boring stone walls. I have already found the basement, a cellar, a prison of some sort, countless balconies, inner gardens and now I was hopelessly standing in front of the room where Gilgamesh has taken his bath last night. I knew that my place was not far from here, but I wasn't sure about the direction. Ironically enough, there were two ways in front of me to choose from, one to the right, one to the left.
This whole thing resembled a situation where I have to make a very important decision and there is no turning back once I've done it.
I breathed in haltingly and decided to take it to the left. After taking a few steps, an eerie sensation took all over me. I was feeling as if I wasn't alone anymore.I took a few more steps cautiously and I started to hear incoherent words. The closer I got to the source of them, the more meaning they began to have. Two people were talking in no other place than the king's throneroom. No, let me correct myself, one person was talking and judgint by the high-pitched voice, it was a woman. A rather feminine one at that.
This got me suspicious so I let the urge to peek take over and looked inside the throneroom carefully. It was full of columns, statues and other decorations, so I decided to sneak in swiftly. The mission was a success and my current position made it much easier to scout and to eavesdrop. I didn't even recognize how inappropriate and risky this quest was.
The sight was more than unexpected.
Gilgamesh was sitting on his throne as high and might as ever, his lions lying at his feet lazily. He had that characteristic ever-loving grin plastered on his face. In front of him stood a woman who was speaking for the whole time. She appeared almost extraterrestrial, her revealing clothes complimenting her already attractive body. Her long silky hair framed her face and she was fiddling with a lock of her hair slightly, maybe she was nervous.
"So, what is your answer Gilgamesh?" she inquired. Her voice may seem appealing to some, but to me it seemed annoying and nerve-racking.
"My answer?" Gilgamesh dismissed the grin and looked at her with a bored expression.
"Yes!" she exclaimed squeakily. "I have just told you that I want to marry you, you weren't paying attention?!"
My face went blank, what the the hell is going on?
"No matter how many times you come here to tell me that, my answer won't change. I just thought that you have understood it by now and my answer is obvious." the blonde said nonchalantly.
"You really are stubborn, Gilgamesh, aren't you?" she perked up an eyebrow.
"I'm not interested in marrying you, Ishtar, just get over it. Also, I'm pretty busy, so I ask you to leave." he added, rolling his eyes.
"No, you didn't just say that! You can't ask me to leave!"
"Yes I can, I just did." he stood up and crossed his arms. "I'm not marrying you, so there is no point in having this conversation." he was deadly calm, besides the goddess losing her temper in front of him.
"You are so gonna regret this!" she hissed, turning away from him and disappearing instantly.
I decided not to look anymore, so I just leaned on the column and analyzed everything I have just heard.
Ishtar, a goddamn goddess, came here to court Gilgamesh and he rejected her like it was nothing! What on earth is happening here?!
Then I heard an angry growl, coming from an angry king.
"When are you planning to reveal yourself? I don't have all day, you know!"
