I stand frozen in my spot. Not moving an inch or even blinking. "I think you broke her, Kendall." Roxie giggles next to me. I take the cup from Roxie's hands and down the drink. Drinking too fast, I start choking.

"Oh my god! Are you okay?" Kendall rubs my back.

"I'm okay," I assure him, still coughing a little.

"You shouldn't drink so fast." He chuckles.

"I'm going to go mingle around. You guys can talk." Roxie smiles wickedly, dancing away into the crowd. Kendall takes my hand and leads me towards a table then sits me down.

"I'll go get you some water...if I can find some. Be right back." He smiles then squeezes his way into the crowd. I smooth out my skirt and clear my throat. I watch as a guy dressed as a police officer approaches me. He has a smirk on his face.

"Violet, right?" I nod slowly, confusion forming onto my face. "I noticed you were sitting alone. Wanna ditch this party and go with me? I'm having a party back at my house. Some other people from our class will be there," he says as he steps closer.

"Our class?" I frown, and his lip twitches slightly. His smile looks forced, and he looks annoyed.

"We have History together, but I feel like we have chemistry instead." He gives me an impudent wink. That was the worst pickup line I have ever heard in my entire life; it's cringey and stupid. "Come on. The rest are waiting for us." He ushers for me to follow him, but I don't. Instead, I shake my head and stay where I am. "What are you doing, Violet? Come with me." He stares me down with his fierce eyes.

"I'm not going. My friend is waiting for me." He takes a step closer. He stops smiling and grabs my hand roughly; his free hand reaching for a pair of handcuffs situated on his waist. I try to free myself from his grip, but it's too strong.

"Hey! What are you doing?" Kendall appears behind the guy.

"Kendall! What's up? I'm just inviting Violet to my party. She was about to follow me, right?" He looks at me. He is still holding onto my wrist, but his grip tightens immensely, and I grimace. I shake my head strongly, and he scowls at me.

"Can you please let go of her hand? She didn't agree to go," Kendall voices sternly.

"She's just being shy. Come on, I just want to borrow her for the night. It won't hurt you, Kendall," the guy says with a fake smile on his face.

"I suggest that you let her go, Thomas." Kendall takes a step closer, his expression darkening. His body towers over the guy since he is taller. He lets go of my hand and raises his hands in surrender. Just then, the same redhead from my Chemistry class comes scurrying to the guy's side.

"Come on! Let's go, Thomas!" She smiles sweetly at Kendall then glares at me and drags the guy away from us. She talks to him with an enraged look on her face as they walk away. I close my eyes and let out a breath of relief, leaning back into the chair.

"Are you alright?" Kendall asks, and I open my eyes and nod.

"Yes, thanks to you, Kendall. I don't know what would've happened if you didn't come." I give a sheepish smile. He takes a chair and sits next to me.

"Here, drink some water." He hands me the cup. I grab it and take a few sips then set it down. I fidget with my hands while biting my bottom lip. "Don't worry. I'll always be here to protect you." He squeezes my hand gently then pulls me into a warm embrace and pets my head slowly. I could smell the subtle cologne on his body. We stay in that position for quite some time until someone interrupts us.

"Are we interrupting something?" I break away from his hold and focus on Roxie. She is holding hands with a guy dressed as a pirate.

"No. Who is he?" I ask, the corners of my mouth turning upwards.
