*Vi..et...Vio...t...Violet!* My brain comes back up from dreamland to a familiar scenery. People are conversing all around me, and I look in front of me. My friend, Roxanne Katzman, sits there with an annoyed look on her face. She has been my best friend and first friend ever since I started attending Preston High. If it wasn't for her, I'd probably be sitting alone at lunch for four years in a row now. Yep, it's been around three years since my parents died, but I've been holding up fine.
"Violet, I'm seriously worried about your insomnia. It's been getting worse! I mean, you're zoning out during lunch! How could you?!" I chuckle a little. Roxie, it's the nickname I gave her, is a very outgoing girl. She has the cutest personality, and she has the weirdest interests. She is probably the nicest person you can ever meet, but that's why I love her so much!
"I know you love food a lot, but that doesn't mean I should love it so much that I can't take a quick break while I can." I quickly finish my lunch two minutes before the bell, which signifies lunch is over, rings.
"Come on. Let's head to Chem, Vi." We gather our things and head for class. We take a seat at the back of the class, and the rest of the students come bustling in. Kendall Williams, the school's golden boy, walks in, and a few girls in the class start whispering and giving him flirty looks. He is indeed good looking, but a girl like me will never have a chance with him. He probably doesn't even know who I am. Sometimes our eyes will lock for a few seconds, but that's it. We've never talked before except for when I started attending school. He had to show me where my classes were and how to use the facilities provided here.
I look as he walks through the aisle...towards me?! He's heading towards me! I look around and realize the only seat left was to my right. Yeah, that's why. For a second there, I thought he was going to talk to me. He takes his seat, and everybody in the classroom quiets down as the teacher enters.
"Okay, today we'll be learning the formula for..."
The teacher turns around to write down the topic, and Roxie whispers to me, "Oh my gosh! I can't believe we're sitting next to Kendall Williams!" I chuckle.
Just then, someone taps on my shoulder. I turn to my right, and Kendall is smiling at me. I feel my heart beat intensely at a hundred miles per hour. "Hey, Violet," he says. Oh my God! He knows my name.
"Um, hi, Kendall," I whisper, smiling nervously.
"You dropped your pen. Here." I nervously take the pen from his outstretched hand.
"Thank you," I mutter.
"Ms. Peres and Mr. Williams!"
I quickly turn to the front. "Sorry, sir." I lower my head.
"We're sorry, sir. Please continue," Kendall apologizes.
"You're lucky it's you, Mr. Williams." The teacher resumes to teaching. The rest of the class goes by, and I fall asleep.
Unfortunately, I am interrupted by a shaking. "Violet?" someone calls.
"Hm?" I sit up straight and rub my eyes sleepily.
"Violet, we were paired for a project." Kendall is sitting in the chair in front of me and staring at me with a smile on his face.
"Oh my gosh! I fell asleep?" He chuckles a little, and it sounds like the best thing in the world.
"Yeah, but just for a little while. We have a project for Chemistry due next week. Let's work hard, Violet." He smiles warmly and pats my head, and I touch my head on impulse.
"Uh, y-yeah, of course. See you after classes." I rush out of the classroom to my next class.
