"Let me look at your arms, sweetheart." I look at the red rashes all over her arms. "This is very easy to treat. It will not hurt at all so don't worry, okay?" I smile gently and apply Hydrocortisone cream to the affected areas.
"It's kind of cold," she states.
"Yeah, that's because it's been placed in an air-conditioned area. It doesn't hurt at all. Right?" I remark and ask. She shakes her head, and I finish spreading the cream then pet her head after taking my gloves off.
"Mommy, I need to go to the bathroom," she tells her mother.
"Madelyn, you see that hall down there?" I ask, and she nods. "Just walk down there, and you'll see a door with lots of stickers on it. That's the bathroom," I tell her. She scurries down the hall, and we hear the click of the door.
"Thank you again, Ms. Peres," Mrs. Flowers, Madelyn's mother, says. "Madelyn has been scratching the rashes nonstop. I was worried that her skin might peel off," she expresses tiredly.
"No problem, Mrs. Flowers. It's part of my job." I smile and look at the certificates hanging on my wall; a bachelor's degree and a medical school degree in frames. "All you have to do to make the rashes disappear is to keep applying Hydrocortisone cream. You could also use Calamine lotion for relief. I'll write down a prescription for Madelyn," I state. I take out two small tubes of the cream along with the prescription and give them to Mrs. Flowers. A few seconds later, Madelyn comes back, and they leave.
. . .
I unlock the door of my house. As I walk in, a strong smell of seasoning overthrows my senses. "Ken, are you cooking again?" I ask. I walk to the kitchen to see him in an apron cooking steak on the stove. "Why didn't you call to inform me that you were coming over?" I ask getting a cup of water.
"I did. You didn't pick up," he voices as he runs his hand through his hair. Man, that looks so hot. What? Don't judge me. He's my boyfriend of ten years. Yes, it's already been ten years. Shockingly, we're still not married even though we love each other like crazy.
"What are you thinking in that little head of yours?" He walks up to me and tilts my face up.
"You know I don't have my phone on me during sessions. It's always silent on my desk." I turn away. He chuckles then resumes cooking. A few minutes later, he sets two plates on the dinner table, and we eat.
If you're wondering why there is no sign of Owen, that's because he moved out three years ago. After I graduated, Aunt Carrie returned home, and Owen and I lived in this house for three years until he left to live in his new house with his girlfriend of three years, Lexie. Later on, he found out she cheated on him with some rich guy. I think he got a new girlfriend, but I'm not sure. He was pretty depressed for a while. "How's work these days?" Kendall questions.
"Oh, it's good. Not too stressful. What about you? Is the new project hard?"
"No, I'm almost finished with it," he answers. Kendall became an architect; his work is great, but it's taking some time for him to get known.
After dinner, I come out of the bathroom after a shower and see Kendall looking at his phone in my bed. "You're staying with me tonight?" I ask getting into bed. He realizes I came out of the bathroom and quickly turns off his phone.
"Yeah, I'm trying to be with my girlfriend more," he answers and pulls me closer. I pull out my phone and start watching wedding proposal videos. I love watching these because they're so cute...and maybe because I'm waiting for mine. In the corner of my eye, I see Kendall take out his phone and go through his messages with someone, but I can't see the name.
