A FEW DAYS AGO
"Remind me again why you're leading me to Central Park blindfolded?" I ask as I almost trip on a rock.
"How did you know we're in Central Park? Never mind, the kids here are so loud. Just follow me, you'll know once we arrive at the destination," Roxie replies. After almost tripping over something again, we come to a stop. "We're here!" she says, unexpectedly loud. Seconds later, the blindfold slips off, and what I see knocks the breath out of me. A huge banner decorated with colors and a few words is hung between a tree and a lamp post. Balloons are all around the ground. Written on the banner is 'Will you go to prom with me?'
"Who is this for? Is it for me?" I ask, but she only shrugs. Then Kendall, along with a group of people, come out from the playground behind us with instruments in their hands. Kendall starts strumming the guitar he is holding while two girls shake their tambourines, and another girl and a boy are holding party poppers. He sings 'I'm Yours' by Jason Mraz.
When he finishes, he asks. "Will you go to Prom with me, Violet Peres?" The party poppers go off, making glitters, confetti, and strings fall on us.
"Yes, I will, Kendall," I answer happily, and he smiles.
PRESENT DAY
"I'm going to be busy all week, Vi. The committee is trying to make this year's Prom awesome for seniors," Kendall says, holding my hand as we walk to class.
"It's fine, I know you're just doing your job." We take seats next to each other. "Plus, it's our Prom, and you're the one organizing it for us." I smile, and he returns it.
"Alright, kiddos. Time for History!" Mr. Smith exclaims, flashing a wide smile.
"Looks like somebody's having a good day," Kendall remarks.
Lunch comes by, and we all sit together. Kendall quickly gobbles down his food and stands up to leave. "Sorry, I have a meeting to attend in five. See you after school, Vi." He kisses my forehead and leaves.
"Busy boyfriend you got there." Roxie giggles.
"Well, you should be thanking him because he is working hard to let us have an unforgettable senior Prom." I roll my eyes at her.
After a few seconds, a group of people comes to our table; it's the same people who helped Kendall ask me to Prom. "Hi, Violet!" Charlie, a bubbly blonde girl, greets me.
"Hi, Charlie." I smile. "What's up?" I ask curiously.
"We want to know if you'll be running for Prom Queen," Emmanuel, a nerdy boy with large frames, answers.
"Oh...um, I don't think so," I answer blandly. "If I do, no one will vote for me," I add in.
"That's not true! We'll vote for you," Emerald, a pale girl with emerald-colored eyes, declares.
"Others will too because we'll let them know how nice and kind you are," Layla, a dark-skinned girl with kinky curls, adds in. I look at Roxie, and she shrugs.
"I guess..." I murmur, and they all cheer. "Just don't make a big deal out of it. Please," I say, and they nod then leave.
"You have a few worshipers." Roxie laughs, and I slap her arm playfully.
"I just hope I don't get humiliated from accepting."
"Oh, don't worry. They won't do anything rash. They only mean good," she reassures me.
