It's 6:30, and I just came back from my job. Teaching is exhausting! I sit down on the couch and look through my students' grades. "How is Michael failing my class?! All you have to do is listen and take notes!" I sigh. "Looks like I'll need to find him a tutor." I decide.

"Mother, I need to talk to you." My son walks down the stairs and sits down on the couch next to me.

"What is it that my dear son wants to tell me?" I ask, smiling. "You know, you never talk to me like you used to when you were little anymore." I pout.

"Yes, yes. I know, but I still confide in you about the school," he replies.

"No, I want to know about what's happening in your life outside of school, Kendall."

"Mother, can we talk about that later. What I'm about to ask you is important." He sighs.

"Okay, okay. Speak now or forever hold your peace." I chuckle.

"Would you mind if I invited a friend and her family over for dinner tomorrow night?" he asks, waiting eagerly for my response.

"Sure! I'll let your father know. She must be a very special girl for you to invite her over even though you're not dating...right?" I ask curiously.

"No, mother, I'm not. She's just a friend," he says. "Until Christmas...I hope," he murmurs the last part, but I can still hear it. The corners of my mouth turn up.

"Okay, Kendall. I'm going to go tell your father now," I say, standing up. He nods and heads upstairs. I walk to my husband's study where he's seated at his desk and talking on the phone.

"Tell him if he needs me, he needs to find a way to pay the fee," he says sternly. He spots me and ends the call. "What is it, Sienna?" he asks, leaning on the desk.

"Ryan, honey. Kendall wants to invite a female friend and her family over for dinner tomorrow night. What do you think? This is the first time he's brought a friend over." I make sure to add in the last part. He thinks for a while.

"That's alright as long as it doesn't affect his grades," he responds.

"Thank you, honey." I kiss his cheek.

. . .

I put on my earrings and look at myself in the mirror. This will surely leave a good impression on her family. I head to the kitchen and find the maids preparing dinner. "Girls, listen up." They turn to my attention.

"Miss Sienna, you look gorgeous!" Bennett, the head maid, compliments.

"Thank you, Benette," I reply. "I have a favor to ask of you all."

"Anything for you, Miss Sienna," they all say.

"Ok, when the guests arrive, I want all of you to head to the basement. Don't come out until I come to get you."

"But why? We have many things to do," Bennett states.

"Because Kendall is bringing his potential girlfriend over for dinner, and I want to test her."

"What? That's wonderful! The young master has finally brought a girl over," Benette says happily.

"Yes, yes. Now, set the food out on the table and head to the basement. You can do some cleaning while you are down there," I state and head out.

I hear Kendall conversing with several people and decide to make an entrance. I walk to the living room and spot a fair, young lady with brown curls. "You must be Violet! I've heard quite a lot about you from my son," I say excitedly. If she's a fashion snob, she would know that the dress I'm wearing is expensive and made by a well-known designer, Riko Anne, and she would point it out.
