Chapter 18:

Nothing.

That's what I would do, absolutely nothing.

My ego had caught up to me again, it seemed that it had taken a vacation while we were up in the sky, but now on the ground, it came back like a flying boomerang at full force.

Once the helicopter was firmly on the helipad I practically dashed out of it, wanting to get as far away as possible from Sterlyn. To say that he was dumbfounded from my actions would be a complete understatement; he basically tore his headset off and chased after me (he had been doing a lot of chasing lately...).

"Alva! Are you alright?" he shouted as he came near.

"Damn his long legs!" I cursed under my breath since he had caught up pretty fast.

I decide to put back on my poker - face once again and replied: "I'm fine Sterlyn; I just have to go back to my office to get other work done." It was a partial lie, I actually didn't even know if I had to get back to the office or not, but he didn't need to know that.

"Oh..." He answered with clear disappointment in his voice. "At least let's have lunch together."

"No, no it's fine I'll grab something later." And just when I said that my stomach just had to growl.

He lifted his eyebrows at the sound of my stomach.

"I brought your favorite... Lasagna" He was taunting me in a joking/cocky kinda of way.

"Fuck him! I'm a total sucker for Italian food, especially lasagna!" I screamed internally.

"Alright. But just because of the lasagna!" I pointed my finger at his face.

He just warmly smirked at me. (He's been acting quite odd the entire day... I mentally noted.)

One very important thing about me wasn't just that I loved lasagna... But that the only thing bigger than my ego is my appetite.

Back in Sterlyn's office he pulled out the guest chair for me, I sat in it but still gave him a sour look for trying to act all gentlemen like once again (it didn't work for him the first time we went to eat so why would he even think it would now? Well at least he isn't manhandling me this time...) and then Sterlyn sat down in his main brown chair. He sent a text to Tina asking her if she could get our food; she obliviously accepted straight away. Then he put his phone in one of the draws of his desk and looked up at me.

"Is there something on my face?" I asked feeling quite bothered because of his stare.

"What? Uh, no..." he answered awkwardly.

"Then why were you staring at my face?" my curiosity had gotten to me.

"Just seeing how time has passed by so fast I guess." That was a partial lie from Sterlyn part, sure it was true that he had thought about how much time he had lost with Alva but he was also just staring at her beauty, her dark hair, olive skin, pink lips and deep green eyes that held so many emotions behind what seemed like barricaded steel doors.

"Yeah, that's why you shouldn't take it for granted." I said that to hurt Sterlyn and I saw that it did, but at the same time it hurt me as well... and in the end, it only left an awkward silence between us.

Luckily it was broken a couple of seconds later when Tina knocked on Sterlyn's door. He let her in and helped her arrange the desk for our lunch.

"Would you like anything else, Sir?" Tina asked with a sultry voice and while puffing her chest out a bit.

"Umm no, I believe that will be all Tina, thank you for your assistance. You can head off to have your lunch break as well" He answered her not even fazed by her weak attempt to flirt.

With her shoulders down she turns around and left the office. I snorted a laugh out as soon as she left.

Sterlyn was by all means surprised to hear that wonderful sound leaving her lips; it had been ages since he had heard her laugh and it was true music to his ears.

Staring at me once again, he asked: "What's so funny?"

"Her reaction obviously." I answered without even a second thought.

"Her reaction to what?"

"To your rejection. Sterlyn, are you really that blind to not see her practically throwing herself at you?"

"She was?" Yes, he truly was this oblivious.

I just shook my head and thought to myself "Wouldn't be the first time he didn't notice someone's affections..."

After Sterlyn handed me my plate and sat down we started to eat. I took a spoonful in my mouth and practically groaned from how good it was. I notice Sterlyn smiled at my reaction (weirdo). After a few more bites I just had to ask:

"Where is this lasagna from? It's absolutely amazing."

"I got it from a place called Donato's, they have the best Italian food in the whole city."

I really couldn't argue with that statement after having the lasagna.

"Well since we're on the topic of amazing things... do you still draw?" Sterlyn dared to ask.

Not wanting to share much (as usual) I just said: "From time to time, work has me busy designing for others."

"That's a shame; I remember you were always a fantastic drawer... I can tell just from your work that you've probably have gotten even better."

"Thanks... I guess."

We just kept on eating after that little exchange, but after a while, Sterlyn asked me another question:

"I forgot to ask you, did you enjoy the helicopter ride?"

Even though I was a bit annoyed that he was being so nosy I decided to answer his question. "Yeah, it was fun."

"I'm glad then that Jane gave me the idea the other day, I had fun as well." He said with a smile. (He has been smiling quite a lot today...)

I had totally forgotten that Jane was the one to bring the idea to light; if I hadn't had fun I probably would have had to punch Jane in the face or something of the sorts for giving him the idea.

"Yeah, I guess I'll have to thank her." I answered with pure sarcasm.

We finished up eating and cleaning up, and then we both headed for my car. (Why the hell is he even coming with me?!) the whole walk there was silent but as we were reaching closer to my car a few thoughts came to mind.

"For once we have actually had a pretty civilized conversation/day, even though I made a bit of a spectacle of myself after the helicopter ride... I guess the day wasn't as horrible as I thought it could be... and well the food was amazing so that was a plus. But there is still something nagging me... Should I ask him?"

Just as I was about to open the door to my car, I stopped.

"Sterlyn... can I ask you something?" I asked not daring to look at his face but instead at my reflection on the car window.

"You can ask me anything, Alva." You could hear the sincerity in his voice.

Taking in a deep breath I asked:

"Did you really used to talk about me to your Dad?"
