Jia's POV
It was Saturday night. The sun had set a while ago and yet its warmth still lingered in the air. I laid down on the hard wooden surface of my porch and stared into the night sky. Ice cream would be so nice right now, I thought out of the blue. I sat up and looked at my watch.
8:56.
Jimin was still out on a date with her boyfriend Soonyoung. "I'll ask him to come in when he drops me off later so he can meet you." She promised.
I decided to head out to the nearest convenience store to get the ice cream I suddenly craved for. When I had got there they were already closed. I sighed. I'm sure there will be another one open somewhere around here.
I kept walking, letting the streetlights guide me until my surroundings became unfamiliar. Maybe I should go back... I turned to go back home when something catches my eye. An old rusty looking swing was sitting all alone in the middle of a cleanly cut patch of grass. About 60 metres away from it was a basketball court surrounded by a wired fence. With no second thoughts I went over to the swing and sat on it. It was surprisingly stable and strong.
"It's comfortable isn't it?"
I turned around to see Mingyu dripping with sweat. His hair was a mess and his clothes looked baggy yet they stuck to him like a glove with how much he perspired.
"Did you go for a swim?" I smirked.
He flicked my forehead. "Funny."
"Ouch!" I narrowed my eyes at him while I rubbed my forehead.
He sat on the grass in front of me. "What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing."
"I was playing basketball with my friends from school, your turn."
"I was just out for a walk."
"At," he took his phone out of his shorts pocket and pressed the home button, "9:15 in the evening?"
I shrugged. "I guess." I started to swing a little. "I was actually wanting some ice cream but the convenience store on my block was closed."
"Jinjja?" He sounded shocked.
"Well yeah I mean it is pretty late so-"
"No I mean-" He cut me off. "I was just about to get ice cream until I saw you." He stood up. Let's go." He started walking the way I came from.
"Wait for me!" I yelled after him.
We didn't really talk much when we walked but it wasn't awkward. It was kind of nice. The silence felt... comfortable? Like we had known each other for so long that silence was no longer awkward. I mean sure we sat in class together and hardly talked but this was different.
We pretty much walked all the way back to where I lived but 2 blocks before my house we turned right and kept going straight for another 3 blocks before I saw it. The cutest convenience store I had ever seen. It was slightly bigger and bright white light lit up the path in front of it. A flower stand filled with bright yellow sunflowers nicely complimented the rest of the place.
"They sell the best ice cream here," Mingyu said opening the door. "Ladies first." He gestured to go in which I did.
The inside was a lot bigger than it looked from the outside. Everything you could possibly crave as a snack was here.
"The ice cream is right at the end." Mingyu pointed.
I nodded and followed.
The varieties of flavours they had were endless. They had the traditional flavours such as vanilla chocolate and caramel but as we went through looking though the flavours they got from interesting to just plain weird.
