Jessica's POV
"You got everything kiddo?" John asks as I step out of the car.
I nod. "Thanks for the ride."
"No problem. Text me when the tutoring is done alright?"
I nod again, give him a smile and wave him off.
I sigh as I make my way into the house. The familiar lavender scent fills my nose as I make my way past the living room, up the stairs and into the first room on the right.
5 out of the 6 other students were already there sitting at the long, rectangular, wooden table.
They all smile at me as I sit down at my usual spot at the end, furtherest from the whiteboard.
"Where's Vernon?" I ask as I open my bag and take my books and pencil case out.
"He's talking to Sarah." Kevin, the smartest guy in this small tutor class replies.
Sarah was our tutor. She's half American and half Korean.
"What would they be talking about?" Krystal asks, bored.
"Didn't you hear? His best friend is joining this class too." Peniel pipes in excitedly. "We men are dominating this class." He starts flexing his muscles making us girls gag.
"Can you be normal for once? You're embarrassing." Shannon says trolling her eyes. Her accent was even deeper than usual.
"I'm Welsh and I love it because I sound smarter than I actually am." Peniel mocks her in his best Shannon voice he could.
"That's not very nice hyung." Samuel, our little baby says.
Peniel was about to mock little Sammy too when Sarah walks through the door with Vernon and another boy in tow.
"Everyone, this is Mingyu," she gestures to the boy. "he'll be joining our class." Sarah announces.
The boy bows making the rest of us laugh a little. He must be new to America.
Peniel stands up and shakes his hand, startling him. "I'm Peniel. Mingyu is it? Nice to meet you man." He smacks Mingyu's back.
"He doesn't really speak English." Vernon says rubbing the back of his neck.
"Ooooh." We all say in unison.
It didn't matter though. Our whole tutor session was in Korean anyway because we all were. Our parents thought it would be a good idea to do it this way so none of us forgot how to speak it.
"Take a seat and let's get started." Sarah says.

At the end of each tutoring session we get given a short pop quiz on what Sarah had taught us. She marks them as we have a short break then she gives them back.
"Who's do you think will be last this time?" Shannon smirks eyeing Peniel.
"Math is not my thing!" he exclaims, flailing his arms everywhere.
"School is not your thing." Krystal rolls her eyes.
Sarah bangs her hand on the table. "Alright I've got your marks here. But before we start can I just remind everyone about the no English rule until we finish our lesson." She clears her throat. "Krystal, check your answers from 3 to 8. Your calculator setting must be wrong. All your working out is right but your answers come out wrong so your score gets knocked down by a lot," Sarah hands Krystal her paper. "76%."
The class 'ooooo's. That was the lowest grade Krystal had ever gotten.
"Kevin, check the last question. I wrote down how to calculate it properly. It's a tricky one that one but you'll get the hang of it." Sarah smiles. "97%."
The class claps at the ecstatic Kevin.
"Just as we expect from the brightest." Peniel says giving him a thumbs up.
"Vernon... 75%... Samuel... 89%... Peniel... 40%... Jess... 85%... Shannon... 91%." Sarah had one more sheet left in her hand. "Mingyu, there is a shorter way of calculating question 15 to 20 which I wrote at the end of the page for you but I'm quite impressed already." Sarah hands Mingyu his paper. "100%."
The class look at Mingyu in shock, including myself.
"Ayyyy that's what I'm talking about boy!" Vernon says happily giving Mingyu a high five.
Mingyu chuckles. He looked a little embarrassed.
I look over at Kevin who I thought would be a little jealous but instead he walks over and congratulates him.
"Alright, everyone. That's it for today. Hang around if you want, otherwise you're free to leave." Sarah says as she packs up her stuff. "I'm gonna go watch Keeping Up with the Kardashian's."
We all laugh as she leaves the room.
I stand and start packing my stuff up.
"Leaving so soon?"
I look down so see Mingyu looking up at me from his seat.
"U-uh, yeah. My ride will be here any minute." Why am I suddenly stuttering?
"Oh I see," he nods. "By the way you dropped this." He hands me a light yellow folded piece of paper.
I did not own any yellow paper but I took it anyway. "Thanks."
He smirks. "See you later."
