not meant to be by godrics on tumblr

"Jungeun, you have to tell them," Jinsoul's staring up at the bottom of the top bunk, where Jungeun lies on her back and staring up at the ceiling.

"I can't," Jungeun's voice is low as she speaks, even though Yerim is not in the room with them.

"You can," she sighs, shifting to lay on her side, "Before someone else snatches them up, again."

"I just ..." Jungeun sighs, "Every time I'm ready to tell them, they fall in like with someone else, and then they're in a relationship, and then their heart gets broken, it's like a cycle. It's like the fates don't want us to be together."

Jinsoul's silent, and Jungeun then says, "Maybe ... we're not meant to be."

"Jungeun, sometimes I worry about you," you let out a laugh, and Jungeun giggles before finally sitting back down next to you.

"Not the first time I've heard that," she grins at you and you smile back, but something seems to catch her attention, her grin falling and you frown.

"Jungeun," you bring your hand up to her arm, "You okay?"

"Um," her eyes fall from yours to the floor, "I ..."

"You can tell me if you're not," you whisper, concern in your eyes, "And what's wrong."

"Y/N," she lets out a shaky breath, looking up into your eyes where you were silently telling her to continue, "I-I have feelings for you."

You're not sure on how to describe the feeling of someone close to you confessing you. Especially when you're not sure of your feelings yourself. You can describe the feeling of someone you like confessing to you, but not this.

You just know that your heart dropped to your stomach, your stomach turning with a horrible feeling.

"Jungeun ..." Your voice isn't above a whisper, and just by the whisper of her name, she knows.

There's a slow smile on her face, but it's sad, and you know it, she knows it.

"It's okay," she says, "You don't have to say anything. It's okay, I know."

"I'm so sorry," you whisper, feeling horrified at the thought of hurting your best friend.

Jungeun shakes her head, taking a hold of your hand and squeezing it softly before letting it go, "Y/N, please, it's okay. Really. I ... I expected this, I just had to tell you."

"I'm still sorry," you're still whispering and she smiles again.

"Y/N, stop apologizing before I start crying," she lets out a choked out laugh, and your heart hurts.

"I'm- okay. I'll stop," you don't want to see her crying.

Jungeun smiles at you again, "Friends?"

You send her a small smile, "Best friends."
