Prologue
I was having a fantastic dream about a shirtless Ryan Reynolds. That is, until the stupid alarm clock on my phone went off.
Even worse, I could hear my dad's heavy footsteps coming up the stairs.
"Eli! Elias, wake up, its already 7:25! We have to leave in a half hour!" he yelled as he knocked on my door.
I rolled around to face the wall and groaned. I didnt want to wake up, I just wanted to return to that fantastic dream. Just five more minutes...
I was shaken, literally, out of my half-asleep state when my dad barged in and grabbed my shoulders.
"Elias! Wake up! Breakfast is ready, we have to leave soon," he said cheerily.
"Okay," I replied, "I'll be up in five minutes."
"Elias!"
I groaned again, throwing the blanket aside and sitting up straight.
"Yeah, yeah, okay dad," I replied.
Thankfully he took the hint and left,
going back down to the living room.I got up, brushed my teeth and showered, changed and tried styling my seriously messy hair. I still had five minutes to eat breakfast so I quickly went downstairs and took a plate, scooping some pancakes onto it.
"No good morning?" I mumbled.
"Hurry up and eat, we have to leave in less than five minutes," he said, ignoring me completely.
I sighed and started shoveling the food into my mouth.
You're probably wondering why I'm in such a horrible mood.
About three days ago, my annoying homeroom teacher, Ms. Meduez, told us about the 'Take Your Kid To Work,' day program. Apparently she forgot about it and gave it to us really last minute.
And I, being the absoloute klutz I am, forgot too. Until the last day when I couldnt give it in and she had to call my parents about it. Long story short, I was forced to come and got in trouble for not remembering.
I ended up having to go with my dad. I would go with my mom, but she's a surgeon and I have no interest in that career. My dad's a scientist, and that isnt any better, but I hoped it'd be more interesting.
After I ate my breakfast, my dad started the car and we left to the SDESL, or better known as the 'South Dakota Engineering-Science Lab.'
It was a short drive from my house, but my dad spent almost every day at his work place. I understand they're researching a new anti-biotic and all, but that didnt mean he couldnt spend more than just a few hours at home with me.
We reached the parking lot and we got out, nearing the doors. For some reason, you couldnt enter unless you had a specific key card. Probably for protection, but literally no one came here anyways.
On the way to his office, we passed a few of my dad's friends. The most annoying one was a tall woman named Lindy who really needed a nose job.
"Lindy! It's so nice to see you, remember how I told you about my son coming into work? Well, he's here!" my dad said to the woman with stark blonde hair.
Probably dyed, seeing as some dark brown streaks were at the top.
"Oh yes! I remember you mentioning him! Its so nice to finally see you Elias! You really take after your father, huh? You look almost exactly like him," she droned on for a little, exchanging greetings and such with my dad.
