Chapter Three:
Ever since last friday- it was currently monday-, I havent seen Black Shadow. However he was seen on the news on Saturday, saving people from a burning apartment. I'd be lying if I said I wasnt atleast a little bit insulted he hadnt dropped by to say hi.
Currently though, I was rushing to get ready for the day. I was definitely going to be late for class. Oh well, Ms. Hughes wouldnt care anyways. I shoved on some skinny jeans, a fadded white t-shirt and a cardigan. I didnt have time to make my lunch so I grabbed some cash and swung my backpack over my shoulders.
Just like always, I used my powers to float the keys to me and grabbed them midway. I exited my house, using my free hand to block out the sun from my view. It was still a little chilly, but the sun was definitely out.
I opened the driver door and pulled out, putting on the radio. I wondered what Black Shadow was doing. He didnt look that far off from my age with what I could see. Maybe he was a highschool senior?
Imagine that. Being a highschool senior, having to study for finals and everything, and having the burden of protecting a whole state. Honestly, what was the point of being a superhero? The super didnt get anything out of it, other than unneeded publicity and a pat on the back. Not to mention controversies!
Which led me back to the article I last saw on friday. A new super, huh? I wonder what his hero name was. It was probably released during the weekend, but I didnt look through Twitter. I only heard the news of Black Shadow from Carmen anyways.
Once I reached the school, I pulled into one of the available parking spots and locked the car doors. It was currently 9:23. School started at 8:45. I was about an hour late. Yikes. I didnt bother opening my locker, there was no use.
I pushed open the doors to my homeroom class and saw the usual; Ms. Hughes was sitting at her desk on her phone, eyebrows furrowed, students talking to each other, on their phones, and Carmen was talking with another girl. I think her name was Kaylee or something. She usually skips this class, so I was a little shocked seeing her here.
"Oh, hey Elias! You're late, what happened?" Kaylee asked me, flashing me a smile.
"Elias! What happened, why didnt you text me? Don't tell me you slept in," Carmen said scoldingly.
"Ah, I had a rough night yesterday. Couldnt sleep so I guess it came to bite me in the behind," I chuckled a little and took a seat beside Carmen.
Kaylee took it as her cue to leave and smiled at both of us before getting up and walking over to a group of girls.
"So, have you heard about the new super?" Carmen sing songed as she twirled a pencil around her fingers.
Ah, the obnoxious new one.
"Yeah, the one that endangered lives at the bank," I scoffed back. He was anything but a superhero. Try a nuisance instead.
"No! Well, yeah I guess he did, but this is a new super! Who debuted in South Dakota! Now, the chances of us meeting a super is way higher!" Carmen smiled and gripped her pencil tightly and made a fist in the other, holding it high.
Us meeting a super? I laughed internally, not having the guts to tell her I've already met one, and he's terribly insufferable. Carmen would be crushed.
"Sure Carmen, when you meet one make sure to show me a selfie," I said, wiggling my phone around in emphasis.
Carmen rolled her eyes, but I could see her lips curling upwards ever so slightly.
"So, have you heard his superhero name?" Carmen flattened her hair and side-eye'd me as she spoke.
"Uh..." I trailed off and Carmen sighed.
