Chapter Five:

Finally, after hours and hours of pure torture, the school bell rung. The precious bell that signified the end of prison time.

I pocketed my phone and swung my already fixed bag onto my shoulders.

"See you tomorrow, Elias," Jaxson said, yawning and shoving his notebooks inside. I'm almost certain I heard paper ripping. Jaxson was as organised as ever. He didn't look as ridged as he did a day or two ago, but I still looked him over — just in case, you know?

"Yeah. See you Jaxson."

"Don't forget your homework!" Ms Gina yelled over the ruckus.

All the students pushed past each other to get to the door. After getting through the door myself, I headed over to my locker.

The hallways were cramped, as usual. Some freshman was blocking the hall, casually looking on their phone. I usually didnt mind the freshman — better to pretend they didnt exist, but this kid was just blocking my path.

Now, before you judge me for what I'm about to do, just know there wasnt any way to push past him, all the other sides of him were crowded. So, naturally, I kept walking, shoving past his shoulder. I could tell he stumbled and hopefully, hopefully moved.

After another minute of pushing past people in the hallways or so, I finally reached my locker. Unlocking it and dropping my backpack onto the ground to grab everything and put the extra notebooks in my locker, I slightly jumped when I felt someone tap me on the shoulder.

"Oh, it's just you, Brian. You scared me," I muttered when I turned around. "What's up?"

"Mm, not much. Just wanted to say goodbye, my moms driving me home and I have to pass your locker. See you," And with that, Brian flashed a bright smile, patted my shoulder and walked to the big doors at the end of the hallway. Huh.

Anyways.

I hadnt seen Carmen while walking through the hallways to the front where my car was parked, so I just climbed in and pushed the car keys in. I hope she isnt too mad at me for being late.

The car started up and I drove home. Between the eerie silence and the comforting noise of the wind brushing past the open windows as I drove home, I let my mind wander around.

I'm going to have to study for my math unit test that's coming up. I better not fail, alot of my motivation to study is going to ride on this single test. And the English test I just know is going to pop-up. Anyways, I had more important matters to discuss.

So, apparently I was a picture on an article of one of the most read News chains. Although my face was admittedly covered, I still felt very pissed. But more subdued, because I had time to maul it over. Shadow didnt realize this would happen to me so he really couldnt be blamed, but it still felt good to blame it all on him. I mean, did he really have to make our escape so dramatic? Just use his powers for goodness sake! Wasnt that what it was for anyways? Hiding and other cowardly things? Well, whatever.

The next time I see him I'm so kicking him where the sun doesnt shine. He deserves it.

The door clicked shut as I locked the door. Home sweet home.

I heard the loud sound of the kitchen fan and the clacking of metal.

"Dad? Is that you?" I said aloud.

"Eli, you're home! How was school?" I took my shoes off and threw my bag on the couch. Walking over to the kitchen, I smelled the aroma of onions and beef, along with various other scents.
