Chapter Six:

"Argh! I hate Geography! It's so boring here," Carmen complained and stabbed the eraser on her pencil on her desk, repeatedly.

I sighed. I'm sighing a lot lately.

"Eli, stop reading or doing whatever you're doing and listen to me! Do you understand how bored I am?"

"Mhm."

"Eli!" Carmen smacked her head on her desk. I shoved my bookmark — a ripped piece of construction paper, back in my book and slammed it shut.

"Carm. What exactly do you want me to do? Expect me to do? Miraculously end school? Murder the principle?" Carmen glared at me. Maybe that wasnt the right thing to say at the moment.

"Eli don't be sarcastic with me right now!"

"Hm. The bell's gonna ring in like, five minutes? Ten?"

"That's so long! I'm going to die of old age by the time it rings. Do you want me to die Eli? Do you want your best friend in the whole world to die?"

"Oh how terrible! Who will annoy me in geography class then? Who will force me to listen to cheesy comedies?" I dramatically fainted onto my desk. Despite my show of sarcasm, I smiled when I heard Carmen stifle her laughter.

"I'm going to haunt you. I'm going to haunt you until you die and then I'll haunt your children and grandchildren. And once you become a spirit I'm going to latch onto you until the end of the universe!" Dramatic, much?

I shoved my hand over my mouth before I could laugh out loud. Carmen however, wasnt as lucky and cackled loudly. Luckily, we didnt get in trouble because the bell rung and we both grabbed our things and booked it out the door.

"Carm, you wanna come over tonight and have a movie marathon or something?" I suggested as we walked down the slim hallways.

"Yes! Let's rewatch Disney movies and cry ourselves to sleep," Carmen said when we reached her locker. Uh.

"That's... a little extreme, but I'm down. After school or in the afternoon?"

"After school. I'll meet you by the front Eli!" I waved a goodbye and booked it to my own class. This is the second time I'm late this week. I really hope I don't get detention.

Thankfully, by some higher power or something equally dramatic, I managed to slip in just as the bell rung. Mr Morodo shot me an unimpressed look and I shrugged and sheepishly smiled in response. Thankfully he seemed to let it go. Mr Morodo was casual like that.

"This is the second time you were late Eli," the guy in the seat beside me said. I turned — it was Brian.

"What, no good morning?"

I nudged him playfully and smiled at his annoyed gaze.

"Not until you come on time! Seriously, what's holding you up?" he whispered back as Mr Morodo started speaking.

I shrugged in reply and faced the front. Brian frowned back at me but faced the front too. The period passed quicker than usual and I eagerly shoved my things into my bag.

Unluckily, before I could make a grand exit, Brian catched my wrist as the others left the room. He shot me a pointed look which I chose to ignore. Or, try to ignore atleast. Give me credit for effort atleast!

"Elias."

His tone was bored but I could hear the annoyance laced in the single word.

"Brian."
