Chapter Four:
The ground was cold and dirty. Did they ever sweep the floors? Yuck.
Anyways, like I was saying, if I was a normal person, I'd be cowering in fear. And don't get me wrong- I was nervous. But not enough to make me afraid for my future. I was just afraid if they were going to push me far enough to force me to use my powers.
The cashier mirrored my actions and dropped to the floor. Thankfully, they hadn't shot anything living — rather, they shot the security cameras and the glass on the mini freezers that held coca cola bottles and other sugary drinks. The glass shattered and fell all over the floor, only inches away from my face.
I took a chance and looked up. There were only two of them, each holding a small black gun. I could feel my headache intensify. Surprisingly, the one who pointed his gun at me moved away, and started to grab things from the shelves. The one aiming at the cashier advanced and fiddled with the equipment, clearly trying to get it open.
I felt bad for the cashier. She looked older than me by only a few years, and she was clearly terrified for her life. She kept glancing from his gun to the door, the only exit in this horrid tiny store. Probably gauging if fleeing the scene was possible. I couldn't blame her, I'd do anything to leave this place.
Why couldn't I have just gone home and slept this off?
But seriously, where was Black Shadow? This was his freaking job for goodness sake! I'd take matters into my own hand, but they didn't look like they were going to actually shoot us anytime soon, so I held off. Element of surprise or what not, I guess.
I've hidden my powers for just over three years. There's no way I'm going to out myself because of a little petty robbery. Besides, my face wasn't covered and there were three other people near me, not an ideal place to out yourself, huh. Since they weren't particularly looking at me or in my direction, I tried to inconspicuously pull out my phone to call the police.
Making sure I was hidden from everyone's views, I used my power to float it towards me, careful not to hit anything and alert them. Which took a lot of concentrating, which again, did not help my headache. At all. Although it seemed I had plenty of time, because these robbers were seriously slow. Honestly, if they were going to rob someone atleast be somewhat good at it. I could rob this entire store in seconds. Although I'd have to use my powers...
I grabbed my phone out of the air, and quietly unlocked it, internally swearing at the little clicking noise it made as I unlocked it. Bless my guardian angel too, because they didnt notice. Although if I really had a guardian angel I wouldnt be in this situation. As quietly as I could, I dialled the police. Was it on silent? It should be on silent, I didnt want to alert the damn robbers-
"Nine-One-One, what seems to be the emergency?"
Shit.
The noise was fairly quiet, but was loud enough to alert the dreaded robbers. I cursed internally as they spun around.
"What do you think you're doing?" I gulped as they pointed both their guns towards me. I guess the cashier realized my life was the distraction she needed as she got up and ran the hell out of here. Well thanks. I understood, truly, but that doesn't mean I wasn't annoyed. And pissed.
I guess three years is how long I could keep my powers a secret. Damnit.
"Calling the police on you," I said calmly. I mean, they already shot the security cameras and if I beat them up enough they wouldn't remember me. Would they?
With the last remaining bits of confidence I had, I shakily stood up and dropped the phone, not minding the nasty sound of it toppling on the hard floor. I hope the glass didnt crack. The line cut off and I knew I'd regret that later. Ugh.
