Chapter Fifteen: Great Escape

I could not believe my own eyes—I really couldn't. Time seemed to slow down as I registered in the few details I could.

The familiar body build—height. The dark skin colour, the hair. The shouting that seemed to get more and more quieter, my ears filling with a shocked ringing.

Jaxson's eyes.

Our eyes met for maybe half a second, maybe even a full one, until he was shoved out the way.

"Get off me, you assholes!" he yelled, facing away to throw a punch right into the jaw of one of the scientists in a white coat.

More rushed towards him.

Blood running cold, I tackled Dr. Mengele's frail form to the ground. He froze up for a moment—most likely surprised I had been following him.

"You insolant child, I told you not to follow me! What are you—," he got cut off by the sound of me grabbing a heavy looking binder and hitting home right onto the back of his head.

Panting, I felt relieved. Until I realized Jaxson was still struggling.

"Who the fuck do you think you are? What did you do to me? Why am I here? Get— the fuckoff!" Jaxson punched another guy straight in the stomach, before turning around to round house one on their spine.

"Jaxson! What—" he cut me off by grabbing my wrist and racing out the door, the last two men in white momentarily stunned.

"You sick bastards!" he yelled back before locking the door with what seemed to be a key card.

Without warning, he pocketed the card, grabbed my wrist again and started running down the hall.

"What—what was..?"

No response, but heavy panting.

I tried shaking my wrist out of his iron hold. I couldn't keep up at his pace, and my dad was still here!

"No questions—not now. We—have to go!" he gritted out, grip tightning.

"Stop! You idiot, my dad is still here somewhere! I can't leave without him."

That seemed to stop him, because he rolled on the heel of his shoes and placed both his hands on my shoulders.

"Fine. But we need to get out—quick. Where is he?"

I internally sighed in relief.

"Dr—uh, Dr. Manilow. Roberto Manilow, I think?" I said, chest still heaving from the excessive running. "Look, I can't keep up with your running—!"

And then just like Black Shadow would, he picked me up—this time rather ungracefully. But all could be forgiven in these circumstances.

"Manilow? Fuck."

And then he seemed to jumped into the air—the familiar feeling that I've gotten accustomed to after Shadow's nightly trips.

Wait—Jaxson's flying?!

"What the actual shit? You can fly?!" I said, voice barely below a yell. This was—this was all too much information to handle.

"No, it's different—now shut up for a second, we need to find your dad before... before Dr. Manilow get's word of this."
