I slowly opened the door. I tried not to but still made a lot of noise. I peeked inside and saw all the neatly aligned beds. Most of the little elf girls were already sleeping in the big room while their parents were still drinking a cup of tea and talking to the other adults downstairs. I slowly sneaked to my little sisters' bed. Emma was already fast asleep. She didn't move much but when she did her face would scrunch up because of the pain. I slowly stroked her hair, she always loves it when I do that. I was just about to leave when I heard her voice. "Kate?" It was very quiet because she was still so tired.

I nodded and gave her a smile. "How are you feeling?" I whispered so that the sleeping children around us wouldn't wake up.

"Alright, I guess." She shrugged her shoulders but even that simple movement brought her pain. She tried but couldn't hide it from me. I know her. I know what her every move means. How she always touches her hair when she's tired, how she always formed a little wrinkle next to her eyes when she tried to hide her laugh how she traces everything she can reach with her finger when she's nervous. I know her. And she knows me so she immediately knew I didn't believe her when I gave her a look. "Okay, yeah. I admit it, it hurts. But I'll be fine, Kate. I'm sure I'll feel a lot better tomorrow." I sighed

"If you say so. But please don't leave the bed before you're sure it won't hurt, okay?" She nodded. Satisfied with my sister being tucked safely in her bed I gave her a kiss on the cheek. Then I stood up again and started heading to the door.

"Aren't you going to sleep?"

"I'll be back soon. I promise. Just need to check something real quick. You just go ahead and fall asleep."

"Fine, goodnight, Kate."

"Sweet dreams," I whispered and closed the door. Just as I did someone walked by. "Oh, Margery."

"Yes, dear?" She turned her head towards me with a sweet smile on her face.

"Is he..." Her smile faded. She waved her hand as a way of telling me to follow her. "Where are we going?"

"Where he is. They apparently had an extra room for growing their own vegetables and herbs. So I turned it into a workspace. That makes it a lot easier for me to look after him until he's better." We walked down the hall and entered a small room. It had a large window that let in the soft starlight. Everywhere stood pots with flowers, vegetables, and herbs. Some pots were hanging from the ceiling by ropes or stood on the floor so you had to be careful not to trip over them. It was a bit of chaos but a cozy chaos. In the middle of the room stood a big wooden table with Rafe laying on it. Every few seconds the big black wolf was still growling or twitching. Margery lit some candles to give us more than just the dim light of the night sky. While she was pulling out a lucifer I was already letting my hand glide over his fur.

"Is he going to be okay?" Her back was still facing me while she let the flame of the match touch the candle wick. It took a while for her to answer me.

"I don't want to lie to you, Kate, nor give you false hope. The answer is I don't know. I'm not sure what it is but there is more going on than just his rib cage being broken. I already managed to prepare a mixture for that. After just a few hours he should be as good as new as far as that goes. Your sister will take the same medicine tomorrow. She should be completely fine after that."

"Well, at least that's good news." I was getting worried. If even Margery didn't know what was going on... She saw my expression and tried to distract me.

"Did my salve work? Show me your arm." I hadn't really thought about it. Now that I did I realized that it hadn't hurt at all today. "Pull up your sleeves for a second, dear." I did and Margery helped me take the bandages off. I was shocked when I saw that the cut was completely gone. Some dried up blood was still on my arm but that was the only thing reminding of the wound. No scar, no irritated flesh, nothing. "Ah, good to see that it worked. Now let's get you cleaned up." She took a cloth, put some water on it and gently washed off the blood. After that, we didn't say a word anymore. Margery continued making some salves, potions, and medicine while I was petting Rafe. After a long time, Margery broke the silence. "It's too late for us to still be awake, right? Let's see..." She walked over to check the clock. "Oh, goodness. It's two o'clock in the morning. We should really get to bed."

"You go ahead. I want to stay here for a while." I didn't want to leave Rafe here all alone.

"Come on, Kate." I didn't answer. Margery sighed. "Dear, listen to me. You sitting here all night won't help him. But it will definitely cost you. If you don't get enough sleep your immune system will weaken and there is a bigger chance you'll get sick. And then I'll have to spend even more time taking care of you instead of him." She knew that that's the only way she was going to get me to bed. I thought it through and agreed. Just a minute later I was laying in my bed but couldn't bring myself to fall asleep. I was too afraid of what would happen or rather what wouldn't happen. What if something was really wrong and Rafe wouldn't be able to see me in my dream. But at the same time, I thought that that was ridiculous and that he could probably explain what was going on. So after worrying for about half an hour I finally closed my eyes.

Hey, everyone. Hope you enjoyed. Please comment to tell me what you think. Also, I think of doing these little extras more often. So today's is;

What is your favorite scene from tbob series and why?

Mine is when Kate and Rafe are dancing in New York because it's so romantic. Anyway, see you next time!
