"We just need to check on the building process again," Kate responded as she came closer to the hall I had just entered through. She, Micheal and Wilamena walked in, seeing my exhausted form. "Emma, what happened to you?"
"Nothing," I dismissed. "Don't worry about it."
"Your hair seems like you've been going through a lot."
"We're all going through a lot, Wilamena. That's nothing new anymore," Micheal corrected the elf beside him.
"Where are you guys going?" I asked.
"Oh, king Robbie asked us to check on the rebuilding of the church again."
"Well, have fun with that," I quickly mumbled and planned to walk back upstairs, already longing for my bed again. But Micheal held me back. "Ugh, what?"
"You just woke up. You should be productive now."
"Yeah, yeah, wise nose. Because you need me with you to look at a half-finished building."
"We certainly would appreciate your company, Emma." Kate's sweet tone won my guilt as always.
"Fine!"

"Hey, Micheal. You could just go as a clown for Halloween. Then you wouldn't even have to dress up," Emma teased as we walked back towards the mansion. The church was as good as finished so there wasn't much we could help with. We were sooner on our way back than expected.
"Haha, oh so funny. Why aren't you the clown with that kind of humor?" Micheal snapped back.
"Oh, let's go there!" Wilamena squeaked and was about to sprint into a nearby clothing store.
"No, Wilamena. We have to go back now," Micheal explained.
She pouted and sighed. "If you say so." We turned around the corner to see dozens of people on the streets with signs held high in the air. The different phrases that were painted on them could be heard from far.
"'Don't kill humans with rat poison!', what does that even mean?"
"I'm not sure," I answered Emma's question.
"I'm sorry, sir!" Micheal yelled to get the attention of the men that was screaming with the others. "What are you protesting against?!"
"You've seen the news! People've been disappearing and dying all over. I bet my left knee that those power-hungry bastards up there are just experimenting on their own people! Just spraying toxic chemicals all over the city like we were rats! That's what we're protesting against!"
"I see, thank you!"
"So, that's what humans think is happening!" Wilamena yelled for us to hear as we pushed ourselves through the crowd.
"Apparently! It's not a bad theory!" Emma stated.
"No, it is! They have no evidence at all! A proper theory is based on at least a few plausible arguments!"
"People are scared, Micheal! They just want someone to hold accountable so they don't feel as powerless in this situation!" I pointed out as I stuffed myself between a group of people.
"Pff," Emma puffed when we had reached the end of the street. "Finally out of that stuffed beehive of people."
"Come on, we're almost back home just a few more minutes."
The further we got away from the riot the fewer people there were. The few we did come across were probably headed there, with signs and expressions to match the protesters. Only a few blocks away from the mansion it was as good as empty. That's when Wilamena's excited voice dropped to a whisper. "Uh, Kate," she spoke softly with a hidden tension. I hummed to let her know I was listening to her. "Don't move a muscle." I haltered my step, knowing by her tone that there was something amiss.
