"Emma! Where are you?!" As soon as I ran into the crowd I lost her. My heart was raising. I looked around hoping to see my daughter between all the scared humans and orphictans running around. "Emma!"
Then I heard a woman scream, "They're dead! All of them!"
"No, Laura!" I heard a man scream while I was sprinting towards the voice and pushed people out of my way. "This one is still breathing! The brown haired girl here!" I didn't know whether I should hope that the girl he was talking about was Emma or not.
Then the ground shook again. I tried everything I could to keep myself from falling. The street I was running on started ripping. I jumped to the side just in time. I saw a building crumble burying a dozen people under it. I couldn't help it, I fell. Right on the broken glass of a window and felt how it cut through my clothes. I managed to get up but my legs hurt from the glass that was stuck in them. I stumbled forward. I saw a bright light coming from a different street and followed it. When I finally reached the corner the light flashed again, blinding me. Then the ground shook one final time, the hardest it ever did. When the light disappeared the earthquake stopped and the pain and pressure on my heart faded. I looked around and saw tons of people just laying on the ground. I didn't see them breathing and some of them had their eyes still open, not closing them. I feared that I would see Emma laying there too... dead.
I looked at the corpses, searching for my daughter. I didn't even see the people that were talking earlier anywhere in feared that they were just one of the corpses laying on the ground. "Emma!"
I didn't hear a response, only people down the other streets crying and screaming the names of their loved ones. I started sweating more and more with each second. I called out to her again.
"Emma!"I saw a small girl with brown hair and stormed towards her. Just like the others, she wasn't breathing. My heart stopped beating and I couldn't bring myself to breathe. I turned her face to me and saw that it wasn't Emma. Now that I properly looked I saw that her hair was longer and a bit lighter, her skin was paler and she looked a few years younger. For one moment I had to collect my breath again. I started quickly running by the bodies again until I saw one that was still breathing. Most of it was covered under small broken stones and pieces of cloth. I quickly threw it off. And turned the girl's face to me. "Emma." I didn't manage to bring our more than a whisper. I cupped her cheek in my hand and a tear of relief rolled from mine. For a second I thought that I had lost her... again. But there was no time for me to calm down, she came first. I started to shake her a bit. Not to hard but not too soft that she wouldn't notice. "Emma. Emma, wake up." She didn't, she was still unconscious. I feared that some of the stones might have been crushing her lungs for too long. I picked her up and started to run in the direction of the mansion where they could take care of her. But I abruptly stopped when I thought of the other kids and Clare, who were probably still hiding under that table. I couldn't decide whether to go find them to make sure they were safe or to bring Emma to the healers immediately...
She wasn't breathing properly.
"Please be safe," I whispered to myself. And rushed back to the mansion as fast as I could.
